No plans for a bigger machine at this time.
He is working on the plasma instead.

The foam that they put around the welder is pretty impressive. I don't think they will have the issues that everlast and others have had with shipping damage. One grip would be the copper threaded piece that the collet drops into, screws into the torch like its bent. With the whole thing assembled the tungsten is centered in the cup so I don't think it will be an issue, but I can't tell if its the copper piece or the brass part in the torch thats the cause.

The good thing about that is, you won't have to adjust the points for a long time as there will be very little wear form arcing. Set them and forget them
I set the points from 24 to 28 thousands. This setting seems to work well.

no issues with Tig, but stick will not sustain arc.......amperage drops to near zero. Is that the machine, the rod, or the operator?
Do you have experience stick welding? It runs 6010 well so I don't think it's the rod as that is the one that usually causes issues. Is it doing this immediately or after you have started the bead and laid down some metal? If you stuck the rod, it should show full current not zero. What are all your settings.
Is this a 2014 or 2015 model? Brand new or one you have owned a while.

2014 model......owned a few months, but not used that much, resides in unheated garage. Arcs and then it just dies. Tried both 110V and 220V max current. Switches are correct for stick. Not a great deal of experience with stick, but some.

tried both but not reverse polarity........the rod is old........think I will try both new rod and reverse and see what happens. Don't plan on using stick mode as I have other resources, but it should work........
One reason I suggest always testing everything right away and getting as many hours as possible on the machine in the first 30 day period where AHP covers shipping both ways if something doesn't work. From their warranty statement
" In the event of unit failure or malfunction, the customer must contact AHP to obtain a location of a designated return/repair facility. The replacement unit will then be returned to the customer. AHP will cover the shipping charges both ways for domestic customers that have units in need of warranty within the first 30 days from the purchase date. After the 30 days from the purchase date, the customer shall be responsible for all shipping and handling costs both ways of non-functioning units for repair or replacement"

Finally tried it out today. I don't have 220 hookup so I went to a friend from works and I forgot the filler rod so really just tried the arc. Used my 3/32 lanthinated 1.5. Balled up pretty good on AC at 100 amps. Steel stayed nice and pointed. Pics tomorrow if I get back over with filler rod.
One thing I did notice too is the pulse feature didn't seam to work, or at least it didn't work like I'm use too. Tried 1 pulse per second cutting to 50% and didn't really notice anything. This was on DC only so maybe only works on AC? Going to try more amps and on both tomorrow hopefully.
I initially had 1.5% Lanthinated, because that was what my LWS had when I picked up the Argon tank. I had terrible balling issues on Aluminum with AC and it was fine with DC on Steel. I switched to 2% from Amazon (via WeldingCity I think) on 3/32" and it stays pretty pointed through about 130 Amps on AC. I have some 2% 1/8" that I haven't used yet, but will on any more 1/8"+ Aluminum I try. I couldn't put in enough power with the 3/32" to get a fast puddle forming without starting to ball it.

Just purchased a 2015 alphatig off Amazon . Can't wait to get it . Not new to tiging aluminum or steel/stainless but have had a DC only Tig for a long time .
Purchased it because I make conversion dirtbike frames . Putting Honda CR500 engines in newer aluminum chassis . Only a hobby . What tungsten do you guys recommend for welding aluminum frames , approx 1/8" thick . I want to say they are made from 6061 alum .

I use 3/32, 2% Lanthanated most of the time but I have used 2% Thoriated. They both work well with the Alpha tig

It comes with 1 piece of 2% thorinated 5/64. I am gonna get some 1/8 2% lanthanated and a gas lense kit. I suggest the same. It comes with only small ceramic cups. I really like the E3 purple 1.5 lanthanated for steel though. Keeps a sharp point for a long time.
For those having trouble with stick welding with the alpha tig on 120 or 240 volt try this.
Take the tig torch off when you install the stick stinger
Take the foot pedal off
Put the switch in stick mode
Put the switch in trigger mode
This should let you stick weld

Help
Just got new 2015 alpha tig 200x and it is not working. I heard there are some common problems with easy fixes.....?
Get juice with stick electrode etc...
Gut nothing but cooling fans running otherwise. Ground and tig have continuity, so no cable issues. Don't even get gas flow....
Help
thanks
TW
It sounds like you don't have the mode switch in the right position. On the 2014 models the icon looked like a tig torch on the bottom and something funny on the top. I hate icons because it's assumed that we all interpret them the same.
To successfully use TIG, you need the right remote control that you have plugged in (on pedal or torch) AND you need to set the mode to TIG.

Tony,
First thing is contact the seller and let them know it is not working.
Then call AHP tech for help.
If that don't work call me.

Really want to buy an alpha tig but, not liking all the problems i have been reading about, DOA"s, not being able to start, no arc welding capability's, anyone have any problems with customer service? really hate to judge a product on that, but it looks like I need to, any positive reviews on these? don't need an expensive machine as I am just using it as a hobby welder.
