I pointed out if it were put in the same place each time it would save time, energy, and ultimately, the planet.

I'm a failure at understanding what will set someone off.

I know exactly what you're saying. I have a tendancy to either sound "gruff" or "smarta$$", and I don't even realize when I do it... Too much pipeliner blood in my veins probably. I really try to read over anything I post here or other forums, or even facebook because of that. Also have a tendancy to have a short fuse on an explosive temper. For me it's a lot easier to control it online than in person. Sometimes I'll start to type something, or even get it typed, but cool off just enough before pressing enter to rethink or even completely delete my comments. Never really had any trouble here, but on other forums and especially facebook...

    ...zap!
I agree 100%. That's why I do read it several times before hitting the "Post" button. The problem is that I know what I'm trying to say, and when I review it I mentally add the "tone of voice" appropriate to what I mean to say. The people reading it don't have that same bias when they read it. It's hard to differentiate a friendly chiding from a snide comment. Sometimes it depends on the mood of the reader, yaknow?

I'm Ok with the limited edit period. It's just more convenient on other forums where the time limit does not exist.

There's nothing wrong with a good pizzin match every now and then, as long as it doesn't get into the "your mother wears army boots" stage. I'd rather not see this turn into a sand box at a day care center. Some folks are wired and primed to be offended. That's how they get what they want in life = get all huffy, hurt and offended go tell teacher. Some of us hardliners can tone it down, some of the limp wristed need to toughen up.

Just my opinion, but every board has it's own personality. Find one that suits and hang out.

I'm told my tone of voice when happily playing with a cute puppy is gruff. I don't hear it, people tell me I always sound angry. I would have expected tone couldn't be misinterpreted in print, I'd be wrong.

You won't insult me badmouthing my mother. My mother was for many years town clerk in the small town I live in. Sometimes poorly informed newcomers will ask if I have ever met that nasty town clerk. I respond; "Yes, we've met".

For crying out loud. This is about the time a guy starts shouting I am offended and the forum gets shut down.

Reminds me of Gomer shouting citizens arrest.
