I have a question. Why go for the irs? Wouldn't a modified 3 link provide a better launch to mortify the kids? I used this setup years ago on a 79 muscapri. Removed the top links and built a long 3rd link to tie to a modified trans mount, this really worked well, eliminated wheel hop.

That Capri must've been quick! I am not really going for the drag launch type of car. I want a daily driver with cojones and handling. I have a stock catalytic h-pipe and stock cobra IRS mufflers that I would like to install for a nice quiet exhaust. I might add electric cut-outs for those special occasions. I know about those torque arm setups from maximum motorsports and how effective they are, I'm just going for comfort and handling!

The transmission is a tremec tr-3550 5 speed manual by the way. Forgot to mention.

The 3 link handled well, tube trailing arms to allow for bias one way or the other, bilstein adjustable coilovers, HUGE swaybars, watts link for location, lots of tubing under the car. Forgot the engine, 351 windsor truck engine with aftermarket heads and lots of other goodies, 479 hp at the tires on pump premium with a massaged 750 holley on top. Way too much fun for me.

Hey Willie,

The Fox chassis was actually used in a lot of Ford / Lincoln / Mercury cars. Remember the Granada? The Zephyr? Pretty sure the T-bird was on the Fox chassis and even the Continental of the time was a Fox.

I owned a couple of Mustang 5.0 notchbacks years ago. What a fun car, even if the airbag wheels were ridiculously huge and the rear ends really needed a panhard rod from the factory. Bought several sets of rear tires for every set of fronts...

I did the same when i was 19 with a 79 Pontiac lemans wagon 383 stroker , 6:71 blower, richmond 3 speed with air shifter, and a chopped dana 60 with 411

As long as you ain't talkin taxes, I'm balz deep into IRS so hard it makes my eyes turn green and roll back into my head and my jeans develop crusty spots where my inseams join. Yup, IRS starches my jeans, so I tote my cell phone in a shirt pocket whenever I encounter it done right, and so far he's got it going on.

I agree it is very cool. I guess I have been driving FWD for a while and am jonesing for a hard launching high horsepower something for that "old guy" feel. Don't get me wrong, I love my 30+ mpg 1 hp per 100 lb hotrod, just miss the feel of a really good launch, go to the corner, turn right, etc.

I always liked wagons. When I was a young punk and wrecked my Mom's 1969 Rambler American sedan (not my fault someone ran a stop sign) I talked her into buying a 1969 AMC Rebel wagon with a 343. That car was amazingly fast, I easily outran the Monte Carlos. Great at the drive in movies too.

Yeah buddy, AMC assembled some of the very best automotive engineers back in the day(all except their design guys).

Their V-8's had it going on except they tended to pump out a new engine almost every year....That made the aftermarket performance part guys afraid to tool up to support them.

Another real pain for the rebuilder was they had oddball oiling system flow path and pump design....Mains oil pressure relied on cam bearing clearances, and the oil pump was part of timing cover and expensive to replace.

Well after letting this wagon sit for a couple of years I am gonna make a push to get it road worthy this year. I was buying engine parts for my long rod 351 windsor build. I have decided to just get it going with the 302 out of the 1986 mustang gt donor.
