A bit of Google-fu revealed this:

It's dead stock per corporate - they say I can have anything I want that gets tagged as long as I don't resell in its original form. This one is about $1500 our cost. My back is so happy I put in the ceiling trolley hoist.

So, any thoughts on what to do with a pristine cast iron v-belt sheave that weighs 220lbs? 🤔

It is being scrapped at my work and I can have it - just can't try to sell (in its unaltered firm). I made a big, ponderous pendulum with a 70lb one last year but this - wow - not sure off the top of my head.
I've seen these wind harp things when I'm googling around looking for inspiration:

One thought was to use the sheave as a counterweight with a much taller/larger harp structure above. The stand would be a sturdy shaft supported by pillow or flange bearings. The scale is so huge that I'd have to think loooong and hard about if I could even do it, and what the hell to do with it if I did !

I made an Aeolian harp about five years ago using a six foot long piece of 6 inch PVC. I bought the piano pegs and key to tighten the fishing line recommended for a harp. It had a low sound which is pretty much expected. Between the trees making noise with the wind and light background noise from a street a half mile away, I could barely hear the harp.
After continually tightening the strings as the line loosened, I gave up and finally threw it away earlier this year.
Wires might be a better choice but I never seemed to get around to finding the time or energy to fix the one I made. I liked the idea and sound of it when it worked though.
Hopefully you will have better luck.

Inspired weeks ago with Shootr's tall box tube horizontal cuts & light - kind of roughing out an idea here - think might be nice with a solid steel 3" ball center of base plate and a button LED light of some sort inside..... experimenting - so will likely make a "nicer" version - clean cuts etc in future - big experiment was using a plumbing propane torch to heat and (dis)color the silver steel randomly to blue and other hue's - tried to capture this in photos - sort of comes through.... STILL can't remember to snap pics with phone sideways - sorry...

That's an awesome "roughing out" effort! I'm a fan of those solar garden lights - there are some that the brightness can be adjusted and I just used the light module - created a low profile "cap" and on high, it lights well down to the base.

Your base is great - I'm a sucker for sphere's for some reason so I can definitely see that.

Re: Scrap metal art or projects

Thx Shootr - I like the idea of the solar light too - hadn't thought of that. I clear coated this so the color should remain blue - looks more pronounced in person than I could capture outside. Wife says - well what are you going to do with that? I have no answer LOL - can't see anyone interested in buying these things - or maybe just don't know what market/online place is popular to post on - not looking to make a living - just some beer money I suppose!

*** and THANKS ronsii for turning the pictures!

Re: Scrap metal art or projects

Some of this is blacksmithing, some scrap metal stuff.

Over the last month or so, I have had several customers ask for hooks for bells they have purchased. I decided to make several styles. Some are made to go horizontal like on a post, others hanging straight down from a beam. These are in the unfinished form so they need cleaning and treatment of some kind. I may leave them as they are for now until asked for a specific finish.

I THINK I like this one best. I suppose it depends on what hangs from it though.
