Re: Scrap metal art or projects
The same guy who bought a bunch of items over the last month or so asked me to make a few more things. The hearts on the left and rabbit head are made from scuba tank rings. He wants two more of the rabbit heads before Easter.

Thanks. Favorite thing to make??? Probably some of my abstract pieces. Like some of the larger ones (Eye of the Storm), I posted before that have been rusted or more recently the blacksmith forged ones like the arc and rod poking through.

I know whtbaron is too modest to admit to creating this “yet to be named” outdoor metal sculpture so I took the liberty of posting it ....

This is what happens when aliens flying UFO's do low level passes at mach4 and get a wee bit close to things

Yes, it was scheduled. He injured it a little while ago but with the virus and holidays, we could not get it fixed until now. He had his other leg done a few years ago.

Oh give Donner a skritch from us, we hope a speedy recovery for him. Every time you post a picture of him, I have to show my wife and she gets all weepy and we have to have a moment to remember out lovely Polar.
Do not believe everything that you think.

Re: Scrap metal art or projects
Can you let the cymbal protrude through the steel arches a bit then hammer over or curl over the ends?
Since the cymbal edge looks like it is flat then starts to slope that area may stop it from moving.

Re: Scrap metal art or projects
How much does cymbal extend above arm ? What about drilling 1/8" holes and sticking a 1/8"pin through ? Or a "U" shape rod that will go in hole with the other leg setting on top of cymbal edge

Has gravity failed? I test it here all the time... but it still makes things go down... I would probably leave it as simple is elegant

I'm not sure how to secure the cymbal - I cut slots in the arms and it's currently held with tension from the angled edge of the cymbal into the straight cut slots. That works fine until it's bumped. I will probably fine tune the slots so they get maximum engagement on the lip of the cymbal.
Also have to determine what finish to use on the steel.
How about a couple small silver-solder tacks on the back side?

Oh I like the pin idea! I cut the slots little by little, to creep up on enough of a cut to hold it. Cutting them a hair longer will let the rim pass thru just enough for a pin to be installed.
Still trying to figure out a finish for the steel. Maybe some rattle can paint that has a hammered look to it.

Ha, not yet anyways! It is nice with nothing visibly fastening it together.

Re: Scrap metal art or projects
If it is to be displayed as you have it here, with the one side towards the wall you could take a small piece of round stock,1/8 or 3/16 and tie the two flat bars together behind the cymbal. Drill a hole in each flat bar at the center line of the cymbal insert round stock, cut to flush and a quick spot weld to hold the round stock in place.

I love the way that looks but can't get the image of a clock out of my head. Very creative!

Re: Scrap metal art or projects
Perhaps you could use a clear epoxy to hold the cymbol in place where it sits in the cut out grooves on the undersides so it is not visible.
