You have some very nice work with really clean lines. Can you show some pics of the scroll bender jig and the picket twister you have?

Psa, thanks and I was going to take pics of the twister and scroll jig today, but I ran out of time. Tomorrow morning I'll take some pics.

Thanks! Is the Delrin fairly inexpensive? I should think about doing that

I'll try and keep the pics coming

So here's a couple videos, (which in theory are worth a couple thousand pictures each)

    The twister:

    And the scroll bender :

How do you clock( make all balusters have the same number of twist) your twist. Is that handle thingy for finishing a twist by hand?

I start with the handle on top, then count the revolutions, that determines how tight I want the twist to be. I count the revolutions, and flip the switch off, and it takes about a 1/4 turn to stop moving (after a couple of times you get it down really good)

Usually I can get both ends to line up squarely enough to slide right out of the dies with no binding, and the handle is just to relieve any pressure if it twisted a little too much or not enough,

Here's a funky gate I did in Scarsdale NY, pretty crazy design, I had to match an existing walk gate

And some railings I did for a friend's house, at an extremely discounted price. The curls on the main entrance I bought from king metals, I didn't have the time to make something myself. I think there was about 90-100 linear feet goin all the way around his deck.

Re: Some everyday railings (and other cool stuff)

I have a basic linear foot price for the height that I start with, and I add from that, based on extras like bigger posts, pickets or lambs tongues, scrolls, twisted pickets etc....

Nice work, my neighbor (an Iron worker) bugged me to get into this for a long time with all the new houses going up around my place. I didn't. No real tools or large table to build on.
Now I accepted a job for a 5-6 step stair and small landing. after building or repairing all sorts of things over the years this simple job has me worried why I don't know I just never got into doing this stuff no interest. Should have suggested you.

It's easy, just lay out the stairs and the rest follows lol, it's hard to explain

    Youre out of PA right?

First, those rails look great. I mess around with industrial rails every once in a while, but never got into the iron-look railing.

Stupid question though, does using those cast iron fittings from King Metals cause any issues with welding? Do you take any special precautions with them?

Thanks for the compliment, and no problems welding them on, I used to tack them on each corner, but they'd pop off every oncet a while, so now I just weld all the way around, finials, ball caps etc... No problem

Re: Some everyday railings (and other cool stuff)

So I finished the gate finally

The customers were very happy with it, I'm hoping they order 2 more

This job was delayed by the snow starting in February, good thing too, because it gave me time to powdercoat it, whereas before I had painted it due to time constraints.

Those are some awesome rails and gates. How do you fasten the post to the rock or concrete? Are you drilling through it?
What do you find is the most effective method to fasten any of your rails to the structure or ground? Thanks for any help!
