Re: The DEFINITIVE Welding Gas Costs Thread.

Thanks for doing this. I entered my purchase of C25 from March of this year. Do you think there is any value to entering the date of the gas purchase? I have receipts going back a few years that I can enter if you want.

Thank you for taking the time to do this for everyone. I added my C25 purchase from May of this year and will add another entry next time I purchase acetylene.

As far as the date, anything recent is good. "Going back a few years" would only be good if and only if a) the price is still valid and honored at that LWS at the time of the survey and b) one of the survey responses differs somehow from another entry of yours.

For example: if the entry you just submitted was for a 125 tank of C25, but two years ago you purchased C25 fill for a 330 tank and the price at that LWS is still honored, then yes it would be a good submission at the time of the survey.

It doesn't do anyone any good to see a response in the spreadsheet that you paid $15 for argon in 1987. That's not something that would legitimately be of any use to pretty much anyone looking to purchase argon in that area. Unless they still sell it for $15

Also, I added C100 to the list in the survey, can't believe I forgot about that one.

Re: The DEFINITIVE Welding Gas Costs Thread.

Thanks to everyone who has submitted their info.

I did delete the Seneca, SC row in the Responses Spreadsheet because the NAME of the LWS was not input. Please submit again with the NAME of the place. Please remember, this is to HELP people who are potentially wanting to buy welding gases. Of what good is it to those people if they see "LWS" in the name column? Thanks for your understanding. IF by some weird chance, the name of the LWS is actually "LWS", then I apologize and will re-insert that row.

Great idea, I put in all my gas purchase for the last year. I am looking forward to see what info pops up.

While the time stamp is OK, an actual purchase month/year would be helpful. I added my two recent refills from last week, that could be old news in a year.

I'll make this a sticky Oscar. I've been out almost all day.

Let me know if you need anything from me on this. I'm gonna be pretty busy over the next week so if I don't get right back with you that's why.

That's ok. They're supposed to be old news in a year. Because the whole point of this is to keep it open forever, so long as it doesn't reach some kind of storage space limit with Google. When you filter it by state, scrolling down to the current date should be relatively quick.

I was paying $40 for 150cf of Argon. The last refill went up to $62. They even tried to give me a bottle with a neck ring. It said customer owned but also had the name of there old bizness on it. My LWS sold out to PRAXAIR. Is PRAXAIR good or bad?

Re: The DEFINITIVE Welding Gas Costs Thread.

Do me a favor please.... I just added another entry and screwed up. Thought I checked C25 and in looking at it, I see my purchase is appearing as 100% argon. Everything else is correct. That just needs to be changed to C25. Sorry about that.

Purchased 80 cubic ft tank from Arc3 in Durham, NC for 155.92 and cost to fill with 100% argon was 13.16. I think the guy range me up wrong but not complaints from me!

Added the fill cost to the sheet but no option to add just tank cost.

Re: The DEFINITIVE Welding Gas Costs Thread.

most places sell tanks already full, that's why there's no option. Never hear of anyone wanting to buy a tank of welding gas at the LWS, that was completely empty. What you can do is post the cost of the tank + gas in one entry, and then in another entry, post the cost of the refill only, even if you didn't actually buy the refill. Using subtraction, a decently intelligent individual would be able to figure out the raw cost of an empty tank if necessary for what ever reason.

While there may not be an option for a 60 cuft'er, it is also not meant to be an all-inclusive list. Simply picking something close should get someone new who has no idea what is what, into the ballpark. It's not for me to know what you're buying for my purposes. It's to help others near your area who may want to see what to get where, and near what price. Oh, and I fixed the "Austin".

Thanks, I figured 55 was close enough. Just figured I would point out where it had gaps.

FYI....When filling out my gas costs I noticed there's no option for 60cf tanks....I selected 75cf and made a note of 60cf in the cost section.

Yep, that will work. Its enough info that one can get a reasonable idea of what is available if they are searching in your area.
