Flexcut 80 plasma and Torchmate 4800

Anyone have experience with either of these? They have one setup for the space whale burning man project. In just reading through the Virtual machine designer software manual.
Had LC105M machine torch on it.

How is that for sale already? The 4400 and 4800 ARE BRAND NEW. They were announced not even a month ago.
See if the warranty will transfer over too.
FWIW - the 4400 price is $20k and the 4800 is $25k (without shipping) but that is with the software and plasma. Ready to run.

I believe they are donated or on loan as a beta test.

Are, you supposed to clean the dross off plasma table regularly. It looks a bit neglected

Ya you should but it comes off easy with a chisel and hammer or the back end of a hammer. That isn't all that bad considering.

Those are just the material supports. Flat bar that's merely a consumable on a plasma table. It's changeable.

Its all the latest from Lincoln....but looks as though it has some serious time on it! You may want to look at other new systems on the market that are offered with a Hypertherm Powermax85. You can get 4 x 8 or 5 x 10 machines from companies like JD Squared, Shop Sabre, ArcLight Dynamics and a few others with proven plasma cutters, brand new for a better price as compared to this....unless they have this one discounted a lot. I'd be a little nervous about a "Beta" test unit.... Jim

That flexcut 80 Plasma looks like a real beast. It's nice to see others also claiming three times the consumable life then anything else out..

Looks like 80 amps,80 % duty-cycle at 140 volt output on single phase input power.. So competitive there..

Every single triangle piece and all the attachment brackets for 30 tons of space whale were cut on that plasma table. 2 triangles sandwich a piece of stained glass for each one. So 2 inside and 2 outside cuts for each triangle. I believe it was a beta test loaner specifically for this project. http://www.thespacewhale.com/project/

Having never used a plasma table, it was interesting reading about some of the features like the ohmic sensor (automatic z axis and material thickness calibration) and optimum arc voltage control by varying the z axis while cutting.

That's height control. I just got that! Been rocking my table for 2+ years without it!

Nothing new under the sun there. The Plasma cutter machine/ torch design is the most interesting area for me.. Not much info anywhere? Kaliburn design it or euro?

Re: Flexcut 80 plasma and Torchmate 4800

It means the company Lincoln bought to improve there high-end plasma line.(including the plasma controls) Torchmate sure did nothing are far as moving the bar anywhere. Just generic lower cost stuff, that 1000 table builders have access too. (similar) What I am trying to figure out did this torch trickle down from High Definition machine, like Hypertherm does with their Powermax line..Lincoln has the tech to build excellent cutting edge inverter power supplies ,but just like anything, it's the torch tech they were lacking.. Where the rubber meets the road, shall we say..

Lincoln owns torch mate and bury/ Kaliburn/ Cleveland motion controls.
And Vernon tool. If they put that all together , they should be able to compete with all the other table makers.
If you need the plasma machine fixed, I can help you with that, Torch mate is in your area and should help you with the table. Just send me a PM.

Happy days, I had been told it was on loan for the space whale project. However stopped by yesterday to use the metal band saws and it's still there. Seems it is staying. Now I need to learn a CAD program so I can go use it! Insaneride, we need to go there and play. I'm currently working on a compound bow press. Was cutting the press fingers yesterday, but vertical band saw blade was dull, only got 2 fingers done so far.

Re: Flexcut 80 plasma and Torchmate 4800

The Lincoln air plasma inverters are Italian design (a company formerly called EWS (Electronic Welding Systems). Some components may come from Italy but final assembly is at the Kaliburn plant in South Carolina. The technology for all of the plasma's as well as the CNC controls and machines sold under the Lincoln banner was purchased. Torches were designed outside these companies as well. I'm convinced that when technology is bought from several different companies that the engineering / design of the product is likely not as solid as a complete product that was developed under one roof. (think Hypertherm and Thermal Dynamics plasma's) Jim Colt
