Plasma cutter laying on its' side, OK?????

I'm looking for a bit more room in the garage. Is there any reason why I can't lay my plasma cutter on it's side and use it in that position???
    Thanks,
    Pete

Likely not a good idea, the plasma might pool on one side!

Only thing That might be a problem is cooling air intake/ exhaust, mine is on the side, also the water trap would be useless on the side, so it probably is not a good idea.

With the Hypertherm systems (and probably others) there is a water trap with an auto drain that probably will not operate as designed. Jim Colt Hypertherm

Can't you make a free standing jib crane setup ? Doesn't weigh much and just swing to location when needed. Maybe setup a trolley setup on some unistrut .

    Hi Jim,
Since this is a Hypertherm 30, I won't be laying it down. Thanks. FWIW, now that I'm retired () I've been trying to setup the garage up as my welding man cave. I have separate heat, A/C and 50a 220v power.
    Thanks,
    Pete

Many of them have a water trap in them (as Jim said) I'd just make a nifty little rack that put the thing above or below your favorite welding machine.

This is what I was trying to find out. The Hypertherm 30 has dimensions of like 7" X 16" or something like that.

I have a feeling it was a conversation with his wife that went something like this:

Him: My shop is too small I need to add on 1200 sq/ft
Her: Can't you just lay your plasma cutter on its side?

Him: Yes, but I will only gain 15.666689 square inches
Her: That much? Let's try that first.
