It just absolutely blows my mind that people are giving out of their generosity. I will never forget any of you, and when I do buy my plasma cutter and use it, I will always think of you guys. I owe you guys!

    Keith,

Two thumbs up to you. Work ethic and buying your own stuff? Even got your own YouTube channel?!

You're going places kid. I'm going to show this thread to my youngest son who's 10. I'll even throw you a few bucks too. Remember us when you're rich and famous with your own Discovery Channel reality show.

Don't buy junk like Lotus or some other Chinese crap, Hypertherm is the way to go for plasma.

Yeah, my dumb azz getting called at 8:30 last evening for meetings made me forget a lot of things. Got a nicer hotel suite than I live in too.

I couldn't make the PO today but I should tomorrow. I had an "extra" I was going to send too but it's nothing major and I definitely don't need a big box to fit it in... lol

It doesn't matter, ANYTHING he receives is MORE than he has now. I did this many times and it makes me feel good. Many times just seeing them '' SMILE '' is enough .
I was a vender with horseshoe art at a horseshow. I made a horseshoe minion that was on display and this little guy picked it up and loved it ! Ma said no and he almost started to cry. I took the minion over to his ma and ask if I could give it to him for FREE !! She had a funny look on her face , but the little guy had a huge smile as I handed to him. That was worth more than the $50.00 I was selling it for.

Get some scrap 2x4 lumber and place it under your plate steel. It makes it a lot easier to pick up or cut. Nice work on the welding table.

I have a Milwaukee metal cutting circular saw that cuts 1/2" plate at 1' per second. My saw would cut trough those table legs fast and clean too.

    Re: Hypertherm Powermax 30XP?

The Hobart 190 is better than a Millermatic 211 because it has a transformer instead of an inverter. That Hobart 190 should last forever. I've had Miller inverters fail beyond repair. The Hypertherm plasma cutters are the best quality you can buy. I would get the next size up. I bought a 27 amp Hypertherm 380 and I always wanted more power. It's well worth the extra money in my opinion. And you won't outgrow it. The Hobart 190 can weld any metal thickness. Keep in mind that even professional welders don't weld 1/2" steel pipe in a single pass. Multi pass welds at 125 amps can weld 1" steel plate.

I also had a Miller Spectrum 875 plasma cutter but I sold it. I was worried that it would blow out after the warranty. The one thing that I did like about the Miller 875 was the detachable plasma torch and ground clamp.

This is what the inside of a Millermatic 211 looks like. Just a circuit board.

    Re: Hypertherm Powermax 30XP?

Theoretically, could I weld something structurally critical such as a D-ring hitch attachment with that welder at full power? Multi pass of course. I welded something like 3/16 to a 1/2" or 5/8" scrap and it looked wetted in and looked like it got pretty good penetration, but it's MIG so it's hard to tell.

    Re: Hypertherm Powermax 30XP?

I wouldn't recommend welding anything critical with a stick welder. I don't trust MIG wire except dual shield flux core. That's almost like stick welding with a 33 lb continuous stick electrode. Any trailer hitch or frame I would stick weld. A D-ring I would MIG weld with confidence. Use .035" wire and burn it in. MIG welding especially for a new welder like you can be deceiving. What looks like a good weld may have cold lap.

Did you buy the Hypertherm 30XP?

So your saying to do something like weld a D-ring to a piece of square tube with a piece of flat plate on the end of it I would want to get a stick welder?

    Re: Hypertherm Powermax 30XP?

No. You can weld a D-ring to a trailer or whatever. I wouldn't weld anything critical. That means that if the weld failed it could cause serious injury or death if that weld failed. The tongue and hitch on a trailer have a lot of stress on it. You have some down force about 1000-1500 lbs. But the sheer force is much higher. That's the force caused by starting and stopping. I have a 15,000 lb trailer and if I lose my trailer brakes all that force is pushing on that hitch when I stop. That's a lot of force.

What about "regular" injury But really, if I did want to weld something critical, because thats what it would be, what process would I use thats easily available. Flux core, stick, or MIG? I only have a MIG but just am curious.
