    Fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter

I'm looking for a fifth wheel camper and want to use my gooseneck turnover ball hitch instead of the bulky fifth wheel. So after looking at all the various adapters I decided to roll my own.

A caution here, most 5th wheel pin box areas are not beefy enough to support the additional loading from a gooseneck adapter. You should investigate and beef up the pin box area on the trailer if it doesn't look 100 capable. I've seen pin boxes torn off before from this type adapter.

5er hitch or goose neck, I would not own one without an air ride pin box. Its like riding on a bucking bronco with a solid connection. I invested $700 in a 5th Airborn pin box when I got my 5er . It is the only reason I kept it, otherwise it would have been up for sale the week after I took it home.

I talked with a engineer at the company that builds the frames for the camper I'm buying and he said all good. He said he'd never seen one if there frames damaged from using a gooseneck adapter. I think common sense is key here.

Showdog, looks good. It is way better than what I have seen in camper stores for sale. I far prefer a gooseneck over a 5th wheel if you are working out of your truck and camper and have to move very often. Those adapters to fit a drop down ball type gooseneck are just something else heavy to hassle with.
