Too much wide spread heat even with the smallest tip i had
I kind of thought I might have that same result - that's why I chose tig too.

I like OA in general but find tig to be better for nearly everything.

Btw, what did you use the sil-bronze on?

This was a Lotus Cortina that the guy rolled at a race a few years ago
replaced top and whole drivers side
he wanted sil bronze done on the seams and over layed on some of the welds

and as long as he's paying ...I'll do it...that's expensive rod and the do make mig spools of it but real pricey stuff

Now give them a "bill" for $150/hr so their lawyer can go after the dirtbags at the shipping outfit. Three hour min.
They wont be supergluing after that lesson

That is "sew" nice, I guess your reputation was hanging by a "thread"
Bet they were glad you could fix it, the older generation is so much more appreciative.

I need to try this process on some fugly CI I have from a woodstove part that broke (a dog that holds a panel in place inside, so it needs to be kosher).

Tried "buttering" the break on both sides, and that worked surprisingly well. I'm hoping that if I match up the two broken sides, I can get it to "wick in" as you can with other kinds of brazing. I'll try it with the AC balance on 8 on the Sync. (I used 6 before, I think.) We'll see...if you don't hear back, that means it turned into another disaster...

Honestly, I was surprised I could get it to stick at all. I've heard horror stories about woodstove cast iron getting full of carbon or whatever and being a royal bitch to accomplish anything with...

I didn't butter the sides and it won't wick like soldering that I could see. I ground out the cracks and filled them back up like I was welding it.

DC- works too for the process and I think it's a little more controlled for a small part.

Thank you sir! I'll report back for good or ill...don't need the woodstove just yet – it's 88° here today!

It was in the 20's this morning (fahrenheit) so my wood boiler has been going couple weeks now for shop and house.

I have used aluminum bronze to repair a cast iron drill press vice. I think I ended up using AC with the machine's minimum EN Balance. It didn't need fixing again in the six months I was still at the shop. I think a little bit of cleaning action helps with the crud coming out of the casting.

I tried my syncrowave 350 on max DC- (min DC+) and it did have nice clean color after welding.

Running straight DC still had the same color after cleaning, but looked dull right after welding.

I think you're right, the cleaning action can help.

I'm no pro at it though.
