Some of those smaller ATV winches are pretty lightweight. 15 to 17 lbs. if I remember correctly and maybe even be able to find one lighter. I think that is with the steel cable as well so you would shed a significant amount of that when using marine grade synthetic line. I dropped a bunch off my Jeep by going with the military grade synthetic line. The ones I have seen in use are not rocket speed but not turtle slow either. More weight is true either way but there is also the cool factor.

If I remember correctly, your lake is shallow. What's the point in using a winch? Two pulls on the anchor line and it's up and out. Bob

A winch might be open for discussion. A wench will surely get him knifed to death in his sleep.
An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.

I was wondering what was going on with all the wench/winch talk.... A friend of mine was joking around with me about installing a winch on his jeep and I said wench... well his wife heard it and got pretty mad!!! thought we were talking about her.

The winch in the race trailer weighs 10 lbs and we took out the cable and replaced it with 4000 pull rated nylon rope.
    Works great!
Have to winch truck in and out.
No room to open truck door to get out!......
