Moving 6x6 tubing around the shop isn't easy, putting then up on horses, dealing with the drop, that's why I wanted to cut them with the plasma, I have to finish these tomorrow by myself.

It is when u are setup right, you need build one of these. This is not the wood business stuff gets heavy REAL fast. This will lift around 1800lbs,it swings out my front bay door. And as u can see my Tb300d can be loaded, unloaded fast into my 350UB.

About 5 minutes worth of plasma cutting, and this is what I get, I'll need to touch it up with a grinder a little but it's pretty darn good, that's what I was looking for. https://images.platforum.cloud/uploads/201...e177cca28b.jpg

If a perspective employee takes a measurement and says, 26" and 5 lines you're in trouble.

I knew a guy that couldn't read a tape so he would just keep his thumb on the tape at the spot he measured and walk over and transfer the mark where his thumb was at onto what he was cutting, It worked great untill the peice was more than the width of his arms length.

In the past I made 45 degree jig for band saw. It was faster than resetting band from 90 to 45 degree cuts .
Any use jig for 45 degree and it was right every time.
As tape goes the worse was 120" and 12 ' I do not know how many time a employees would make cut for 120" when I had 12 feet on the cut list or need cut 12 feet at 120 inches.

Feet have no place in a fab shop. List/say/measure all dimensions in inches.

I went thru this a lot while hiring weldors and machinists. It took a long time for the truth to sink in. While you are trying to coax adequate performance from an inadequate employee, you are missing out on the possibility of hiring an adequate (or better) employee. Don't waste time, cut him loose. My "keepers" (long term employees) started keeping a list of the quick turnovers. It ran over 100 in the twelve years before I "retired". I'd guess maybe one in twenty was a "keeper". Sent some CAD drawings in inches only to an architect. Architect sent them back in feet and inches.

Back 30 year ago Most drawings where in feet and inches.

All drawings father did was feet and inches, it onle took me 20 years to have my father make shop drawings in inches.

I ever received drawings in metrics

My self I can work in just inches or feet and inches.
    I do like just inches

So now the guy is upset, claims I owe him $200 for 9 hours, during which he only made 4 cuts in the 6x6 tubing, 3 of which had to be completely redone. He says my shop isn't set up right, he was tripping the breaker using the plasma cutter, says if I had the right breaker it would act differently, blah blah blah blah. I'm tired of dealing with people who don't know what they're doing. This just adds one more bad experience to the other bad experiences that I've had trying to hire someone.

I do plan on making one of those cranes, that's a good setup, I'm building a new shop soon so I'll have the opportunity to put one of those in.

It sucks that he did not work out but if you were paying him by the hr then you do need to pay him what ever time he worked. Even if he did very little. That is the way it is good or bad. If he is threatening you then you need to get the law involved. as far as paying him you have a week to write the check.
