Wow. You're right. I see in the August 2018 catalog some other things have already jumped in price. The 80 amp inverter stick welder and the 180 amp mig guns price decreased.

maybe you never heard of concept price is based on many things like
.
1) demand (price is as high as people willing to pay, in other countries never fixed price you negotiate like buying a used car you negotiate price)
2) warranty or return rate obviously effects price
3) i have seen welders go down in price right before discontinued and they want to get rid of old models no longer being made
4) shipping costs and machines are bought in bulk and price negotiated each time. there never ever is fixed price as manufacturer also sells for as high a price as he can get and still sell as many he wants to sell.
Last HF catalog I got had some same items listed more than once, (quite a few items), the item with a coupon at a price, and, the item without the coupon at a higher price.
Screw 'em, I tossed the cat out.

What is the sound of one knee jerking?
I think Harbor Freight is probably trying to determine price elasticity. Either that or they already have a good idea of the price elasticity of their products and are letting demand drive their pricing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_...city_of_demand

They slowly raise prices and then can make a big deal out of it when they drop the price of an item.

I thought I heard something about tariffs on goods from China. Might be fake news though.

I used to buy a lot of cheap tools from HF.... but for the last 10-15 years the prices have been going up... a bit here.. a bit there... some things they kept down were probably over priced a long time ago and some things have gone slowly up, maybe they are putting more time/quality into some of the stuff/junk. I can remember a couple angle grinders I picked up more than 10 years ago for 7.99 - heck the box of grinding discs was just as much!!! I used that grinder for almost 5 years before burning it up letting the neighbor guy use it... he had seen other non english speaking 'professionals' using then for cutting faux stone veneer without ever using the off switch... so he just left it on for 20 minutes... poor HF grinder didn't like to free wheel
Most of their large hand tool sets went up about 6-7 years ago, I suppose their quality is a bit on the better side... but who knows. I know when I bought my 1" drive set they said it had a lifetime warranty.. just keep the orig receipt! and 2 years after I bought it it went up 75 bucks..... is still at that price today.
