    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

There is no doubt the 45XP is a super machine in capability/options I will just use my scribe, if I need some kind of marking. Working a deal here on selling the 45XP, and will just run the Thermal 60i.. Very impressive cutting one 1 inch on my table. Way easier to setup, and run then the 45XP mostly because of the longer arc, and much longer standoff.. Not really a issue with the 45, because it really was not made for that kind of stuff anyway. Stick in the 3/4 range max, and she is way more happy. More people will like the 45 xp because of all the options it allows, just a few things I want, and the 60i works better there. I put in a whole lot of time in the Thermal stuff, and am just happy where I am with it.. The 60i has breathed new life into the old SL torches..(IMO)

    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

I have quite a assortment too.. Sold off tons of victor stuff too. Least Ebay has original 60 amp nozzles for about for about $15.00 for a pack of five, and electrodes at $19.00 for 5.. I believe I can find USA aftermarket now for the one torch.. Generally excellent stuff. so there are 20-30-40 (two styles) 50/55, and 60 amp cutting nozzles available. 40 amp gouge nozzle, 60 amp, and 60 amp drag nozzles made for this unit.. I will use the 40 alot because it seems the new power supply has gave them a boost. Same with the 60 amp . I cut though my first piece of one inch at 40 amps, but a 60 amp nozzle.thought it cut pretty well. Then I noticed it was set wrong. Turned it up to 60, and it really does have driving arc..

Bought a shielded setup 9-8235 (shield only for 50/60 amp drag cutting.} 19.00 but have the extra 9-8237 cups. About $35.00 for those.. So a few extra automation shields for back-up, and more 40 amp nozzles,I will be stocked up well..

So , Scott, for non table, non professional garage use, which do you prefer? The new 60i or the 45xp? Just wondering now that you have played with both

    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

The 60i for sure..You have to remember this is just what works for me.. The 45XP could be best for you, if you are doing things that the machine is capable of. Meaning long reach consumables, marking things, Precision gouging spot welds, flush cut stuff off.. List is long on the capability on the 45XP . What the 60i does best is, it thinks it's a bigger machine then it is, and will support my smaller SL-40 torch setup.Nothing with the Hypertherm can get close to that setup. Plus I have little bits, and pieces for Thermal stuff. like a 25 ft lead extensions. Cutting on my table the 60i is much easier to use, when it gets up to the top of the range.. By a mile too. That is where I wanted improvement, and it does exactly what i thought it might. Works better then a A-120/A-60 cutter I use to have when using the 60 amp consumables..Just punches through plate great now. I think is mostly personal preference, but The one time I cut 1 inch plate on my table with the 45XP is showed I missed the extra power of the other machines i had. Just did not like cutting so close to the plate like the XP forces you to do so by torch design.. Thermal could care less, pushing the 60 amp nozzles added a whole lot of arc force to the plasma column. Did not think a power supply would make such a difference to a old torch design.. I was wrong on that one..Shocked really.. Thought the one torch was about done, and this happens..

    Mine shows up tomorrow...

It's over $1800 on Amazon now. Good thing I bought it at a little over $1300 when you posted.

    Thanks for costing me money

I'm replacing the Thermal Dynamics 51 with it. The 51 is only a 40 amp but cuts up to 1/4" really well (selling it though).

Also likely selling the old transformer based Miller Spectrum 700.

    No problem .

Here is some more things you really should use on this machine.. Factory stuff not aftermarket China There are good deals on E-bay for original 60 amp tips (9-8210) and 9-8215 electrodes.

First things first, and what you need for good consumable life overall. Look for a deal on the cup, but don't cut corners on import China stuff.. Bad Ju-Ju..

So that drag cap screws on the end of the regular cup and it gets dragged on the plate instead of the tip?

Been wanting a 60 amp plasma for quite a while. This one hit my "cost to desire ratio" button

The cutmaster 60i torch front end is shipped with a standard exposed style nozzle (or tip as Thermal dynamics like to say) #9-8218 cup. To use the SL-60 torch in a drag shield config, you will need the 9-8237 cup, and the 9-8235 50-60 amp shield posted above. Really the machine is not setup correctly for dragging at 60 amps.. 40 will work, but then the 9-8207 tips are better there. Or the high dollar 60 amp drag tips made for that. Most times the shield system is best unless you need to drag a straight nozzle against a template/hole jig etc...

This is the fancy 60 amp drag stuff.. Don't last like the shielded setup above..not the correct picture of them, but right part #

    https://www.weldingsuppliesfromioc.c...p-pkg-5-9-8252

PS. there is also a drag shield for 9-8208 40 amp standoff/machine tips it's Part # is 9-8244

    https://www.weldingsuppliesfromioc.c...eld-cap-9-8244

Dragging the standard 60 amp tip the machine is setup will just fold the current back to 40 amps.. Anyway just not correct @60 amps unless you you the a standoff on your factory 9-8218 cup, and exposed tip. or hold one by your hand /guide etc..

    https://www.weldingsuppliesfromioc.c..._store=default

Correct picture of the 60 amp drag tip/nozzles if you prefer. ( Hypertherm political correctness) These work with your factory supplied 9-8218 cup shipped with the 60i.. Came down in price, so a good option to have laying around..

    https://www.torchandweldingsupply.co...ip-60-amp.html

just one last few notes..20 amp/ 9-8205, 30 amp/ 9-8206, and 40 amp/ 9-8207 are all drag nozzles for use with the 9-8218 cup.... There is also a 40 amp, and 60 plus amp qouging nozzle available, but don't have the # handy.. The #40 amp stuff turned down should get you into somewhat a precision type mode there.

    All done I think...

Hmmm....so it would seem you are saying to swap tips when turning the amps down.

I've been just using what ever size tips came with the 51 and the 700.

I'm guessing that's technically wrong - or at least not as efficient.

That's it in a nut shell.. Although depends what your needs are. Small kerf, small nozzle. Also using the correct nozzle can make a huge difference in input amps. Did some tests with the SL-40 torch, and it's three consumables. Pakmaster 38XL 29 amps output. 40 amp stand-off nozzle most input power. 40 amp drag in the middle, and the drag 20-35 amp nozzles least amps input, and most power with the increase in Arc density. I think that it what it happening with the 60i over say a machine
like a cutmaster 52 and it's 60 amps output.. arc stream is just wicked in the new unit.. even 40 amp nozzles seem to cut thicker, and faster.. They even recommend more stand-off cutting .135 ms then the older units. which is more arc voltage.. Something is happening.. You will see once you throw some thick steel down to cut, and this thing just blasts through it cleanly. Really puts some guts behind the arc..Just more powerful then a A-120/and the 80 amp A-60, cutmaster 101 /amps 80, and 151/100 amps,52/ 60 amps, when all are running at 60 amps output.. You can just tell they are on to something..Not like I don't know what the cutmaster line cuts like.. This one is different..(same torch too).

Here is a link with some amps/arc type for gouging with the Cutmaster..It will take the 9-8237 cup, and 9-8241 Gouging Shield Cap to setup correctly.I have that setup with the A tips, and will get the B style today.. (ebay deals) wounder how my extra 120 amp tips will gouge? I use them for marking layout divots on my table.. With the 10 amp ow end might work even better. then 20 amp low-end of the other cutmaster units.

Looks like the 60i will do air marking, even without a huge production from marketing, and or special software, and consumable parts.. No expensive gas either. Pics @ 11.. I am thinking Esab/Thermal Dynamics don't even know this machine can do excellent at it.With the correct/setup/tip config..

Yep, got some A,and C on order.. I think I am going to get burned on my c order.. Nothing in the ad said five nozzles The A are the real amount. Not much I can do but wait, and see what shows up.. Pics of a full package, so we will see.. I guess getting stiffed if I was a betting man.

Least I can use what I have here for air marking..
More fine tuning on the divots a bit, but not real easy to totally get rid of.. It's mostly for layout/punch marks, so nice the thing can do it..

    Chris,
got it a bit better. smaller divot. Just dialed down the amps 10/expanded metal setting, and gouge mode will work too, but bit more touchy though / .1400 ramped pierce/.0800 mark height/ 100 ipm speed/ compressed/ air feed. exposed nozzle setup.. one last detail, that puts it all together, but think I will hold back until I run through a few more setups.

    Scott,

Those look really great, had no idea the cutmaster would mark that good or work with argon. The Hypertherm 85 won't mark at all and craps out on argon, I tried everything. Even the 45xp took a little time to mark and be able to see it after painting or powder coat. I know is was not designed for this deep marking but the 45 did open up some possibilities for me once I got the programming down. Now it makes me wish I would have bought a cutmaster when they were $1300.

This is one example of what I do with the 45xp. Once painted they look really good. I can do about 80 of these on a 300 cylinder of argon. Each one is done twice to get the making deep enough.

    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

    Chris,
    Look very nice.

I have a lot of options on depth. I was in the 10 amps mostly, and 12 a few times.. Argon aluminum was a tough one.. Started out with some arc good issues.. Flipped it on with my switch to on all the time was no go.. Since I have arc good amps adjust set lower, and no issues now.. I can use gouging mode or expanded metal mode. pretty much all speeds, and cut heights stay the same.. In my test stuff anyway..

Here is the deal, I use a 120 amp nozzle, and it works great to keep the divot small. The 50/55 are some that I used too. So all amp sizes do a bit different profile.. I have not even played with the amps on the machine yet either. So you have 20/30/40/50-55/60/70/90-100/120 to play with, also the A-D gouging nozzles.. Main thing the air-Aluminum are slick, and cheap to run.

^That is amazing for a 60 amp machine to cut 1.1/2" as cleanly as that. I know you are an expert with plasma cutting.
But that is impressive I know plenty of 80 amp machines that wouldn't cut it as cleanly. Thanks for the interesting
demos and sharing the features of the new machine. Very Interesting.

Sometimes the Video's of machines like the 60i gets posted, and really nothing about how to set one up to cut correctly.. Thermal Dynamics, now Esab is more interested in fancy drop test vids then really showing how to use one.. I sure would not drop one, even they say it's tough as nails. I would take a old esab Powercut 650, and feel it would survive much better then this unit.

I truly think it is squarely in between a 45XP, and 65 Hypertherm, or a 52, and 82 Victor. power wise. It will push the 60 amp consumables farther then the 52-82.. The larger machines will pierce 5/8 quite a bit easier with a machine torch.. (Hyper 65/victor 82) Just flat out more power but still have to use the larger amps/ consumables to do it.. .500 is realistic on the 45 xp, or the 60i Yes you can do more, but the book is correct..

    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

HI When watching one of the demos on the 6oi I thought they were very sophisticated and kinda complicated with
so many modes and settings I thought they were more suitable for controlled cutting on a table For some one who just
wants to pick up and cut heaver material would be better off with the more basic 52 or 82 if all you want to do is straight
forward hand cutting Thanks for sharing so many interesting facts and details on that machine

    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

The 60i is very simple to use. Here is the deal. Air is easier to set, you also have a gouge mode too. The SL-100SV machine torch does not even show up on the front panel unless plugged in. The digital amps is much nicer to set, and know that it's right on the mark.. I had the 52, and 82, but would go for the 60i unless I needed the increased output/voltage input types of the 82.. I totally believe the new inverter is much better with it's power input over the older machines.. I prefer the panel layout over the Hypertherm 45XP, and 65 I had too.. Simple, and intuitive once you use the machine.. I like how it resets itself after a consumable change. There is nothing wrong with the panel on the older machines, but don't let the new tech worry you. Sort of had the same thoughts, until I used it.. Here is one other thing, the 60i is a 10 year newer design over the older units, and it shows. No big clunks of the mechanical contactor on the older setups when first turned on..

I have the CNC interface for the CM-52-120 machines, and really those are setup better for cnc then the 60i is.. (until you order the interface, that no one knows about) In this thread now...

The 60i will stay setup for standard cutting mode if set that way.. Meaning, your last setting stays the default setting So once setup, you really don't have to change anything again.. SL-60 torch (like up to 35 ft. air in green /60 amp consumables, 60 amps output/standard plate cutting.. fast to go from gouge/ expanded metal/latch and back again if need be..
