This cutter could be a deal for someone.. You have to get it quick before Amazon jacks the price out of sight. I picked one up at $1355.21 (Amazon Prime price) Which really is about as low as it might go. , It started out at about $1500 something ,and dropped to $1355.21 this morning Might of dropped lower, but some smart guy always nails it before that happens..

I am selling my 45XP to go with the Thermal machine. Great machine too, just does different things I really don't need at the moment.. I want to be able to run the small torch with 60i, and something not possible on the 45XP. Not a knock, just want to use the SL-40 on sheet metal type stuff.. The 45XP gets good consumable life, but the victor stuff is really cheap on e-bay.. Kind of a wash for me.. Have tons of both anyway.

I have a cnc interface for the 60i, and it will work on my cnc table. So with my SL-100SV torch, not losing too much on the table,Some gain and some loss. Want the extra arc length the 60 I will provide. cutting thicker stuff will be a bit easier running at .1900 off the plate instead of the .060 of the Hypertherm. Mostly that, and thick it will be a bit easier in that one application. Find out anyway.. Fan will be louder, but since I run fans to pull the cnc cutting fumes out, no issue with that one either.

It's lot of machine for the money. Made in North America too.. (Mexico)

yeah, that's a hard to beat price. The best price I have seen on a Hypertherm 45xp is $1860.

Mine is $1990 with the cpc connection.. Bought it with the gouging torch/hand torch/cpc for $1910 I believe? Good price, and should sell at $1500 with some extra consumables/Hand torch only. Going to give the gouging torch to a friend,unless he want the whole deal.

This one is made in Mexico. like all the larger cutmaster's. 42 is China, and 15c, 35 built-in air ones are Korea (about 12/13 years now..



The 60 amp straight drag work somewhat ok with the standard 9-8218 cup, (40 amp too) Shielded drag is your best consumable life, using the 9-8237 cup, and 9-8244 /40 amp/ 9-8235 60 amp drag shield combo. The straight nozzle 40 amp un-shielded gives you the best view over any other design from anyone out now. reason I use the SL-40 torch over my Hypertherm 45XP on sheet-metal (38XL) I use what works for me, and not what other people think is best for me.. Llike your Esab PT-31 with the XT consumables

Yeah I used it recently and am getting better at it. Since it is HIgh Frequency I was under the impression I had to maintain tip to work contact at all times. So you can imagine how I was going through consumables and scared to use it as it was eating through my wallet. I recently tried cutting with an 1/8” to 1/4” stand off after intiating cutting flame and the consumables tend to last longer. Still not great at it but getting better.

I have a cheap plasma but for whatever reason it doesn't run well at all off my trailblazer and i'd really like to have a plasma cutter that i can carry to the job site and count on to work as it should. Have you tried the TD unit off a generator or do you have any idea if it will work in a mobile application off a trailblazer?

I have not used either the 45XP or 6i on a genny. Put a meter on the 45XP, and it's excellent in amp draw. From what I know the Thermal should be the about the same..You can fudge the # a bit by keeping the arc length short as possible, and with the different torches on the Thermal it should really be genny friendly I played with the SL-40 torch, and noticed huge differences in running different consumables. Main thin is the power supplies on both as about as good as it gets genny wise.

Cutmaster shows tomorrow. It's down to $1319.92 now.. Ordered mine Sunday, and will be here on Tuesday. I will have both here, and can run some input/ output tests tomorrow. My guess is the trailblazer will run both machines at least to their rated piece thickness.. Maybe beyond if you setup the consumables corectly.

All the thermal plasmas have ran well on the genny's i had them with.. Same with the esab machines.. More of a matter of full power or not.

Don't forget about the $130 rebate on the 60i from ESAB. The catch is you have to buy an A50 welding helmet also...

The 45XP will have some advantages because of all the different consumable designs. Just a much more modern torch.consumable design. Cutting stuff in normal fashion, the more powerful 60i should have a edge in longer arc length on the extreme edge of performance. I expect on 1 inch they both can cut 1 mild steel at a best quality speed of 3 ipm
The arc will probably blast through the bottom of the plate a bit better on the Thermal unit. That is where I will test for amp draw,and will give the two power supplies a work out

I am setting mine up for cnc work, and have a lot of experience with Thermal machines, That means the inherit advantages of the 45xp there will just be less of a factor in me using one. Most people it would not be the correct pick for them, but I am not most people or do production work on my table.. Just my own use type of things mostly.

I don't expect the 1219 price to hold much longer. Probably for the next guy to pull the trigger, and that's about it. Sit on the fence, and you can loose out at amazon.. From what i have seen anyway.

I did hook it up.. It's awesome. it even supports my SL-40 torch.. (40 amp max) The 1 inch @60 amps output will draw between 39-42 amps input/240 volts. I ran some 50/55 tips @50, and it dropped it down to the 35 peak input range. Probably better to use those nozzles over the 60 amp ones if you what a bit less draw, and keep the performance up..It really is a powerful arc even with the old torch tech. Hypertherm 45xp is on the way out. Nice,but the Thermal does what i want it to do.. started hooking up to the cnc table now..

Setup for the table almost. Just have to hook up the two trigger wires to the #3/#4 pins on the J609 terminal. Have to figure out some kind of decent plug to it.. There is arc good on the same terminal, and full arc voltage too.. Just used a CandCnc voltage divider in the unit, and their arc good setup I had..Works well.. The machine auto senses the machine torch with a valve, and sets it up to use. Does not show on the front of the machine, until you plug that torch in. Thought they killed that option, would of sucked too..

There is no CNC stuff for this unit, although it's all wired for it in the future..

I could of bought one for $40.00 cheaper. but you know Amazon. kind of crazy if you wait just a bit too long. At least people had a chance to get in on it,so best I can do..Was going to e-mail that deal when it first showed, but I think you really have the best machine for your type of work.. You would set one up with a SL-40, just so it would work in tight places that your PT-31XT would..Anyway, thought you really don't need the extra power at all..

I saw your post and when I looked at the price is was just over $1300. I almost put it in my cart and checked out since when I used it at fabtech in 2016 I knew it had a nice long arc and great for hand cutting. The ESAB stuff has turned out to be good equipment for me. I probably could have talked myself into it since I sold the cutmaster 52 recently.

I seem to be spending more money than I need lately, and just a few months ago bought that 45xp and then dragged home a larger 10x52 mill, still debating if that was needed. Steel and aluminum has gone up here...damn tariffs.


I have mastered plasma marking on the 45xp, or at least I think I have. Good enough that people are pleased with the look and making money from it. I use lots of argon though since my trick is to slow it down and run it twice on each piece. I finally got rid of any divots that are easily visible.
