    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

More Thermal Dynamics info..From the horses mouth..It means the new electrodes are all max life ones.. The part # on some sites showed a 9-8214 electrode and also ads on a max life 9-8215 electrode..

During the Cutmaster 60i design stages it was thought we should work on increasing the electrode life. Thus a new number was issued. Then real life kicked in and we just did the enhancements to the standard electrode 9-8215. FYI 9-8232 and 9-8215 are the same part. Marketing requested two numbers so they could come up with a ration of sales for automated use versus hand use

By the way the 40 amp A gouging tips are great when used as precision gouging in the 10-15 amp ranges. As good as it gets from anyone..

    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

On the way today.. Working on selling my first one for $1250.00 Paid $1355 for it less then a month ago,and can afford to give a fair price to someone else. Kind of averaging two together to get it all to work out for both of us.

The 20 ft model is way up there now. I am sure the 50ft will follow the same pattern. Meaning 4 or 5 guys get a great deal, and then it dries up pretty quick. Then the value of the discount machine will be back to normal prices..

Thanks for the heads up, and I know two on-line friends that pulled the trigger too.(members)

    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

I got mine today, still in the box though. I will bust it out tommorow to admire my new purchase and play around with it. I think this machine is going to stay in the truck, 50ft of awesome in the field. I can't wait to test it on the generators and see how it performs.

This was a great deal! Even better with the $100 rebate. I think Thermal makes a great plasma, I beat the hell out of my Cutmaster 52 and worked awesome as a hand cutter or on the plasma table. I have to thank Scott for all his knowledge when it comes to making good cuts, lots of little tricks and tips that in the last few years have made my plasma use really pay off. There is a big differnce in cutting and cutting well.

I think I am going to skip Fabtech this year, I don't know what else I could possibly want to buy anymore, especially since I am back up to 3 plasma cutters!

Would the 50' hose be more ideal for CNC work on a table and would it require more air PSI or is the PSI something the machine regulates according the torch hose length? It is looking really tempting at this price for a 50' gun. How would hand cutting be on a 50' hose?

I was going to ask if ESAB still did the Trade in your old cutter deal but I don't see how that could be applied through Amazon.

Same input pressure, you change the settings on the unit for how long of torch you have. I think the 50ft is great for hand cutting, you can have the machine farther away and be able to go where you want without lugging the machine with you. I have a specific purpose for a 50ft torch, I do a lot of stair/fence maintenance, I can now pretty much pull up, fire up the generator and start cutting or gouging, no stringing 10 gauge extension cords or hauling the machine around, or at least that's my plan. The longer arc on this unit will let me cut better in tight spots, something that I have always liked about the Thermal machines, this one is even better based on what I saw when I used it 2 years ago.

For the price the 50ft is just a bonus in my opinion, one worth having, at $1200 this is still a killer deal. I doubt you would get a trade in on the Amazon price, my bet is ESAB did not make them sign the set pricing guarantee the others have to follow and probably pissing a bunch of other retailers off.

    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

Not like I really needed it but at $55 a month for 24 months I think I can swing it and have a much better cutting capacity than my current plasma machine. I should have it by Thursday or Friday at the latest.

I paid $300.00 for the machine in my sig and can probably get that much back out of it if I decided to sell it. I would hope so any way. I mean it cut's 1/4" clean with no problems.

I really like the idea of being able to drag cut and hook up the machine to a CNC table if/when I ever get one. I would probably start out with a 4x4 table.

    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

Really the Valve in torch SL-100SV automation torch is best for CNC work.. Although the standard 180 degree machine torch can work well too..

Jim bought a 60i mostly for down the road cnc work, and has my old Powercut 650 machine.. The Power-cut is also a 40 amp machine ,and he does a ton of body work with the esab. (.250 max.). I really think he will still grab the Esab first for most of his work, and the 60i if above 3/8 type of work. The closest you can get to the small front-end of the esab is using the SL-40 torch on the 60i.. I use my 38XL with that torch, but can run on the 60i fine. It can throw a end of life codes because of the tight tolerances of the SL-40 consumables.. Does not stop cutting, and clean up of old consumables can remove the code... The SL-40 torch is best matched with the 29 amp Pakmaster 38XL even over the Cutmaster 42. With the 9-0091 (20-35 amp) consumables, it will have the lowest amp/air input of any combo you can come up with.. Could be huge on a genny that is almost there.

    Chris,
comparing the 60i to a 52 is night in day when you get into the thick stuff.. Not a fair fight, and I would say a 45XP is closer to the 52 then it is to the 60i. Not that a 45XP is not a great machine too.. in fact all three are..

I been thinking a upgraded 80 amp model of 82 would be about perfect overall size for hand cutting, and CNC work. Just to have the punching power of the 70-80 amp consumables would put it in with the big boys. Meaning, (thermal 80 amps) cutting things in the 3/4 plus range with the lower amp/ high output machine would put it into very nice cut quality company.

Remember the Thermal, and Hypertherm don't match up exactly on amps. Good rule of thumb is 10 to 15 amps higher on a Thermal matches a Hypertherm in cutting speed/thickness.. Was fine, because you have some many option on nozzles with the Thermals, you could hit where you needed to be. I happen to like the long cutting arc on the table. really have zero issues with slag piles. You can glide over them at .1900 an inch better then you can at .060 of a inch..

Mine did not show. maybe a few more days? Of course I live the closest to Amazon too.. Not that i am suffering at all.. Just have the other one packed up already..

    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

What I like about the 40amp machine I already have. It does not require high psi or a huge volume of air “less than 75 psi at max amps as far as I know. Consumables are fairly cheap. Torch is very small and easy to maneuver or manipulate. 20’ or 25’ torch and work leads. Small compact unit easy to transport. L-tec build quality.

Dislikes: High frequency starts. Limited cut capacity at 1/4”. It is not modular.

From what I understand this 60i is air hungry at 90psi to 125psi depending on the amperage and type of usage. The consumables look to be a bit on the expensive side and based on my experience with my present plasma cutter, I could burn a big hole in my wallet very fast on consumables if I make any cutting mistakes with the 60i and improperly selected consumables for the cut. “Shoulder shrugs”

    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

The 60i has improved 9-8215 electrodes, and supposedly last longer then the old ones..Look the same, so need to use longer to find out.. The Thermal machines run at generally 70 psi flowing. Because you set the machine at 90-125 does not mean what it runs at the tip.. CFM is not all that much more between 40 amp tips. All the Easb machines run 80 psi on the front dial The 40 amp SL-40 torch uses way less air then any Esab setup other then the PT-34 torch with the 12 amp consumables and the 15-20 small tips on cetain older torches

Ebay is super cheap on factory 60 amp tips tips.like $13.00 for 5. Cheaper then factory Esab stuff in general. (USA made quality too) Which work, and last much better then the bottom feeder China stuff.. Run shielded on the Thermal, and it would be real hard to mess up the consumables using them .un-shielded when needed or when you are use to them.

I don't mind the Hi freq on the newer esab machines I used. just no pilot arc, but had very little issues even on expanded metal. These were the PCM-35- Powercut 650 types. No moving parts in the torch head is nice.Keeps things very small.. HI freg in the bigger machines would jump a mile to the plate.. Like all the bigger CNC machines with high freg on CNC tables.. Yes the big boys use high freq on all high end rigs. meaning the $20,000.00 and above units..

So am I wrong in thinking The tip on the PT31XT should always be making contact with the work to initiate the arc? Good to hear the air demands will not be much different than my current set up.

Price jumped back up a little from $1194 to $1241 last night after midnight a few minutes after I placed the order . It is still a great price.

    Re: Amazon Cutmaster 60i

You would only have to get close, and not have to totally touch the plate on the ones I've used.. Although quality nozzles, and a slight angle at the start, (even when touching) really did not have much of a impact on nozzle life.. I always try keep a slight push angle when dragging on the plate with my little esab machines, then not too bad on life. Jim gets good life out of his Powercut, and liked it much better then the Hypertherm 600 he bought new. (by far, with the same era of machines) Just technique is much more critical with the old school stuff..

Setup with the 9-8237 cup, and either 9-8238 60 amp shield/9-8210 nozzle-.. 9-8244 40 amp shield/9-8208 stand-off 40 nozzle . The machine will be in it's max life consumable config.. You can run the 60 /50-55 nozzles a bit lower in amps, and forgo the 9-8244 shield setup. Might be all you might need? I run everything that fits the one torch to maximize it completely. Try the stock setup, because it does have the best view overall, and is ok if you don't drag it a bunch at the higher amps.

Was looking for torch heads for machine or sl40 torch and only finding them with the hoses which in theory would cost more that way.

You have to buy the complete torch if using the SL-40.. Zoro tools with a 25% off is the cheapest at about $210.00 now.. I think paid around $180 for mine a few years ago. They turn up on E-bay once, and a while. Best torch for auto body with the 60i..I use my 60i on my table with swap outs over 3/8 to my hand torch. Under 3/8 or so,I just use my mint P 2002 Pakmaster 38XL and it's upgraded ATC SL-40 setup. Nice quiet low air/amp draw unit. use it with my 2.4 cfm Rolair that barely keeps up, but does.. 3.0 Hitachi, and larger Rolair/Senco are even better, but might as well use my Curtis 2 stage at that point.. The Sweet little JC-10 does the job well enough.

The torch head change out for the SL-60 QD torch is only for the SL-60 type Just a gimmick in general, because parts cost more then finding a deal on a complete standard SL-60 torch.. Just seems like another connection point for issues..(IMO) little Value other then taking the head off to change out consumables on your bench or something) If they made a gouging style torch it would make sense to have the torch come off. Not setup with a pendant for standard machine torch that connects to the ATC of the standard machine/track torch..

Oh ok I was under the impression the SL40 was QD like the SL60/SL100. I'm thinking I'd be better off just keeping the PT31XL then unless I was able to sell it for enough to make up for the consumables I purchased for it and put that money towards the SL40 torch and a good supply of consumables for the SL40.

Good plan on keeping the small torch head for now. I am sure Jim will post up his thoughts on keeping his Powercut 650.. The SL-60/60i can get by at body work, but I doubt he will pick that torch .machine combo up for most of his work.. He can sell the Esab for almost what he paid for the new cutmaster.. I have the 38xl, but would lose the 120 input, and just a nice old/ mint American inverter to boot.. Just heavier then the new ones, but tough and cuts as well as any 120 volt machine there is out now.Just down a bit on 240 power,,compared to some newer stuff.
