Girlfriends Parents Coleman Furnace not working.

I know at least as little about gas furnaces as anyone here. My minimal experience has been with camper furnaces, and water heaters. If there has been an interruption in gas supply, I can't get them to light.

When turned on, a valve opens allowing a small amount of gas to flow to the pilot. A spark, or hot wire igniter comes on. If all is well the pilot fuel supply ignites, and begins to heat the thermocouple that powers the bigger valve to open. If the thermocouple fails to sense heat, it times out, and a waiting period is needed to try again. In my case I have to crack a gas line to vent air in the line, then it works as it should.

Exactly right Willie, that's why I asked earlier if there had been any work done in the area to the line, have seen what happens when they get hit while digging! and they usually get a good charge of regular air in them so depending on where you are in the piping you could get an interruption or even moisture that depending on how the device is plumbed could get into the valve.

Got an update yesterday after noon. The HVAC tech confirmed my suspicion that the Gas Valve was bad and they had to order one. They should have a heater again some time after Christmas.
