I drive a manual. No problem with flashing.
Two of my imports go into a flasher mode when it gets too bright for them, they are fine when welding but if you're outside on a sunny day even if the helmet is not directly facing the sun they will start flashing on and off.

Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR"

I'm the OLD GUY that's gonna tell youu what Dad used to and you used to ignore. As a 66 year old mechanic there are 2 things I should have listened to Dad on. One is Pick up the freekin' hammer if you need to move something, don't punch it. Both my hands are junk now, just had one cut up to try and fix a couple of joints. The other thing is WEAR EYE PROTECTION, that's safety glasses and the BEST FREEKIN WELDING MASK YOU CAN BUY. You are really going to miss your eyes when they get like mine.

got ya covered..
the [John C.] Lincoln model [Abraham] Lincoln helmet. Looks like it may double as a periscope for those out of position welds.
how ya like that stinger? non coated wire maybe?
Even between the cheapos there are huge differences. Last one I bough was from Amazon, 50€ and it blew away my previous one (name brand) and the recently bought by a friend of mine (also a cheapo but from another source). So try as many as you can. You could take advantage of Amazon's return policy (if you don't have access to them locallly) and buy a few to try out side by side.
Also, another good advice is to have a fixed lense helmet (9 or 10 shade) as spare helmet for those times when your main helmet craps out, runs out of batteries or some friend comes to the shop to help you with something.
