Re: Which welder is better
Those 120 volt machines are only for thin metal 1/8'' is about it for a unexperienced person. Save and get a 110/220 volt machine . The Hobart is unsale and is definitely a upgrade from a 110 volt machine. Buy once and your done.

Check craigslist or facebook marketplace for a 110 volt machine. I always see them because sellers realize they need a larger machine.

Better for what? the box store 140 amp welders are all the same basically probably mo realistically 120 amp the hobart or Lincoln 4 tap 120v machines are probably the same for the most part, if your not expecting the world they do alright, the above mentioned 210 would be better, but on 120v they all the same, you can only get so much out of a 20 amp 120v outlet, I bought a miller 130 35 years ago and the welds I made with it are holding up better than me

The one with the highest price tag is the best one for YOU. Don't cheap out on something like this.

Re: Which welder is better
Hobbytime you must be the jackass snob of this welding website and for the rest of you thank you for the feedback it helped, I ended up buying Forney 271 easy weld 140mp invertor mig, flux, tig, stick welder, I bought this welder for build bridges, sky scrappers for my Town,....back to reality I bought it for auto repair to restore my 87 Jeep Wrangler YJ to repair the back frame around the rear shackle area and do some body, and fender rust repairs, in March of this year I paid a professional auto welder repair rear frame shackle area I bought the new frame repair section for $189.00 gave it to the welder left my Jeep there
for 4days then went to go pickup up my Jeep he handed me the bill for $975.00 my jaw dropped I thought it would have been under $500.00 all he had to do was cut the rust of bottom of frame and shackle area to remove all the rust and then reposition the new one peace frame section to be welded I just don't understand why 4 days and the welds they weren't clean kind of sloppy that why I wanted info on 120 volt welder that's what I have in my garage so I can do my passenger side rear shackle welding repair myself and save me alot of money to invest in buying more part to restore my Jeep Wrangler instead of given ton of my money to someone else.

Don't worry, they can be harsh, it's just part of the initiation ritual here, lol. Unexpected/large welding bills will definitely do that to you! Always get a quote before letting someone do any work!

Re: Which welder is better
Two little kids in the schoolyard were bragging.
1: "My Daddy can beat up your Daddy!"
2: "So what? My Mommy can beat up both of them at once."
An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.

Re: Which welder is better
Lincoln hands down
I would buy Lincoln if lower in cost.
I also like Hobart and Miller welders too.

Re: Which welder is better
in my opinion, stick with a variable wire and voltage machine of the big three or the harbor freight mig. just my input. variable you can dial in sweet spot on practice metal and then weld.
lincoln 125sp
dayton 250 ac/dc
miller 211 w/spool gun
ahp 200 sx tig
lotos ltp5000d
kubota b3200 FEL BH
of course duramax diesel
