    old ESAB HELI ARC 252

I have a old esab heliarc 252 which I use mainly as a stick welder, I last used it about 18 months ago and it work fine the only thing with it was that when I turned it on with the main switch on the back of the set the rcd that is fitted to the wall socket tripped out so I reset the rcd and switched the mains on at the wall with the machine already switch on and it work perfectly.
I switch it on this week the same way and the machine started up with the fan running and ran for approx: 2 minuets with out any welding and then again tripped out. When it trips out there is a clonk from in side, does any one know about the ESAB, does it have a contactor inside for the motor which may need cleaning and should the fan motor star as soon as it is switch on which it as done since I bought it second hand. It the same machine as the MUREX if any one knows about them.

I have an old LTec heliarc 250hf. Not sure if it’s a similar machine but I saw a post somewhere regarding cleaning contractors to remedy same problem.

Yellow case heliarc 252 does not have a large contactor. Weld power is controller by SCRs.
Fan runs all the time. Send me your Email address by private message. I might be able to help you some.
