    Broken engine block.

This one won't be a welding job. 3406 Cat truck engine came in last week with an oil leak, got the flywheel housing off the back of the engine and found this nice crack that wraps around the rear of the block. Name: 20190715_081203.jpg

Another one bites the dust. Wonder what the culprit was, casting defect that was minor enough to hold out until now? Just tell him to buy a whole bunch of jb weld and stop leak in a can, lol.

Theres a little more to the story, the transmission has a twisted mainshaft and some broken countershaft teeth. Terrific shock load comes to mind. The owner actually asked if it could be welded.

Just tell him... yeah, it can be welded but that won't solve anything... but you know jbweld probably would get quite a few more miles out of her

Nowadays I would venture to guess it involves a cell phone in some way!

Company I worked for back in the early eighties had one dump truck that would bust the bell housing once a year some times twice a year never could find the reason. It was an old coal truck so I figure it was bent or twisted .I never drove it so I couldn't tell

the old john deere dozers and track loaders in the 450 size were known for the bell housing bolts to loosen up and then the housing would flex and crack, and cause all kinds of fun damage..

The 450 b's and c's also would crack there. I know by the time they got to the E's they solved the problem but then they made the tranny's junk
