    HF MIG 170 Cap Mod Switch selection

    I've seen passing mention of using a switch to enable and disable the CE MIG 170 capacitor mod, but not much information on what kinds of voltages and amperages the switch needs to be rated for, and what gauge wire to use for connecting it.

    Is there a switch that can handle the current, or would adding a relay be the smarter option? Something like this, perhaps?

    The wires can be 10 gauge, a 50A switch will be fine.

    Thanks, looks like they have it locally to me. I'm planning on using 6awg wire, what crimp connectors would be best? Most automotive-style don't seem to be up to the task, perhaps something like these?

    I tried a 50 amp switch from the local farm store, with about 112,000uf

    it melted the internals down in just a couple welding projects. Same result with automotive 40 amp relays

    Went with this switch and been trouble free- probably a bit overkill, unlike the relays don't need another power source

    Excellent, thanks. I'm a little annoyed that my eBay searches for switches didn't bring that item up. It's amazing how few high-amp switches there seems to be out there. Looks like it will accept 1/4 copper 6awg ring terminals, too.

    I ended up using one of those switches, has worked fine so far, but I've only done a few small test welds. You can see my implementation here;
