Being a manual trans it should have a dual mass flywheel which can be a bit pricey.

He'll be easy on the flywheel 'cause he doesn't use the clutch.

The truck seems to be running reall good. Has good power! Or torque I mean!!The turbo is super quite tho. Going to straight pipe today. Getting pretty good mileage at about 17 in the city. Really jerky when first getting on the gas while in gear in 1st and 2nd. I call low gear first. I’m going to take it to my friend who is a diesel specialist. It’s a transmission shop I used to work at and around. I wanna put a exhaust brake on it also. Any recommendations on exhaust brakes are welcome and if it’s ok on a semi have mileage truck

Good Luck passing your emissions testing.

as far as an exhaust brake, WHY? do you think you are gonna downshift without the clutch like a hero with the exhaust brake on? Mr. Bigrig style???

    yeah, that ain't happening.

cheapest version of any kind of engine brake for that truck is to wire the EBPV...

I was thinking it may lock the gears in but will see. I can turn it off before popping it out of gear then turn it on

Trying to avoid the sh!tstorm here... Personally, I would run the thing for awhile to make sure it's going to live before you spend a ton of money "upgrading" things. I had an F800 with an exhaust brake and it was ok, but nothing like a real jake brake. In fact it was recommended to apply the brake in cold weather with the engine idling to help warmup time. I think it was a Williams brake.

All the powerstrokes have the 'brake'EBV you can hotwire if you want but Just remember.... you can ruin your engine with too much backpressure!!! and this includes aftermarket exhaust brakes!!

I really wouldn't recommend it... just too much money for not enough performance.

Especially on a high miles engine. I recall installing stiffer exhaust valve springs on Cat 3406B's using the Blu Ox exhaust brakes to keep bad things from happening.

Yes, definitely for high mile engines as the springs get weaker the chance of piston popping becomes more a reality

My Exhaust Backpressure Valve like to come on any time it's below about 25 degrees outside... it's very annoying to say the least I keep meaning to hotwire a cutout switch in there but never take the time to do it....

I know what you mean but in a way it's good because it prevents you from pushing the motor too hard before it's warmed up, however once warmed up it shouldn't keep coming back on. Maybe you need a new EBPV sensor, or maybe the preload on the EBPV is not set correctly. Or maybe your EOT sensor is lying to the PCM. In cold weather I really like my EBPV and my high idle (factory). I did set my preload when I swapped the turbo and replaced my EBPV sensor. Once warmed up neither one comes back on again.

The valve will always open once your throttle gets over about 30 percent the issue is once I lay off the throttle it closes again...

Mine is what you might call a hybrid so it has computer issues... Although things did change a small amount when i swapped in the newer computer ... One of these days I'll get around to fixing it right... Lol.

Re: Going to check out this powerstroke today. What do you think?

When I did the dead head fix to our 7.3's it really smoothed out the low end surging/jumpyness. I built my own systems because I can but they can be bought.

Lets see a good picture of the engine, we might see some things to tell you about.

Like others talk about, don't buy into the synthetic BS. Waste of money.

The one thing Ive done with all our used 7.3's when we got them is go threw the entire top end and re-Oring everything.

Check the up pipes to the turbo for black soot at the "baby butt" the part that connects the pipes from each manifold to the turbo. If they leak you are losing boost and mileage.

Ask anything, I have been around and threw these motors/trucks for a very long time.

This is the 'baby butt' on the back of the turbo. Notice the black soot on the pipes.

The best fix is bellowed up pipes.

If there are any fuel leaks rebuilding the fuel bowl is a good idea. Here you can also see the 'dead head fix' I build for our 7.3's

Notice the oil in the valley, that is from leaking O-rings hence why I re-oring these trucks when we get them.

Another thing, if the power steering fluid is dark/well used it is worth the time to flush it with new stuff as the brakes use a hydro booster which rely on the power steering pump.

If your truck is an early 99 DO NOT use ELC coolant. It will eat the loctite on the injector cups and you'll have problems you don't want to have.

Often this is just carbon build-up in the EBP sensor tube - you can clean it! -> http://www.guzzle7pt3.com/ebps.php

    Not sensor build up BTDT

Have had most all this truck apart right down to the frame have had transmission out almost a dozen times!!! got to where I can R&R it very fast. This truck doesn't really know what it is anymore.... one of these days I'll slap a cummins badge on the fender to match what I stick under the hood

You're gonna mess up that truck, it's a forgone conclusion

    Now...….about the little girl.

    Cutie.

Your daughter, not your daughter...………...doesn't amount to a hill of crap.

What matters is how ya treat her, and how she treats you.

And, if she ain't your daughter...……………….Hell, you're treating her momma right, otherwise the little girl wouldn't be holding your hand. Good luck to the 3 of you. Love is a hard thing to find, and if y'all found it at your young age...……..KUDOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't f'k it up.

K'kins is on another dog sitting gig. I do ag equipment. Between the two of us, we eat pretty good. We fit, and fit together real good. If you guys fit, hang onto it. You'll never do better in your lifetime.

Long as ya both work hard to put food on the table, and do it in an equal fashion, you can live a lifetime of mutual respect.
