    Correct

No center punch. I figured that defeated the purpose of a jig.

Correct. BUT if I had the setup elevated I think I would have tried drilling through both walls with a 2” doc cutter.

What hole spacing are you using for the squat rack?
A 5/8 hole every 2". If I get this to a smooth process, I would go every 1" in the bench zone. The company Rogue is the big seller of gym equipment. Everyone want their rack like them, people think theirs is the only way. I'm only 56 i recall the primitive stuff we used. Makes me laugh people think they need all the bells and whistles. Rant over.

Best method to drill hundreds of holes

Hereís an update. It lacks the precision of JTSí nicely machined guide but it actually works.

The new vertical stop will be bushed to accommodate different hole sizes. It is easily located at one inch increments at which point only the vertical pin needs to be inserted in the last hole drilled for correct spacing.

There is no limit to length of material that can be accommodated.

I like that a lot. Just slide the work piece until it hits the big stop and/or drop the pin in the last hole drilled. Is that what I should be seeing?

By sliding the square tube and INSERTING the pin in the LAST HOLE DRILLED you should be able to accurately duplicate your hole spacing regardless of workpiece length.

Iím certain this design can improved on but iwhat do you expect from a farm shop

The specific spacing you're looking for I believe is "westside hole spacing" after westside barbell.

Rogue makes excellent quality equipment but its definitely pricey for home use. They do most things in house with a CNC tube laser.

Are you able to drill through both sides of the tube at the same time. I think I am going to steal your design cause I have another gate to build and using a mag drill might make it more portable for me as well. Thanks. I might make it so I can go thru both tubes at the same time.

Should be able to, yes. I didnít try it for the photo as I didnít have the 2ĒDOC cutter in the drill.

The whole assembly would need to be elevated slightly to allow the annular cutter to break through or clearance provided beneath it.

Iím certain you will find the process way quicker also as the drilling only took 2-3 seconds and another 10 seconds or so to slide the tube and locate in the next position.

Awesome. NOW order yourself enough arbors to have one dedicated for each cutter.

Try using a few different sizes on a project and you will thank me later.

    Youíre welcome

Where was the precision loss on this?

Designs I have seen jigs similar to this with pins as stops that were spring loaded. Multiples stops are set. The metal is inserted to its furthest hole then drilled. Then pulled back until the next stop engages, them drilled. Then repeated.

There was no precision loss. The pin is lifted out and reinserted manually. Still foolproof. Spring loaded pins would be ideal.

Please keep in mind I just mocked this up as an experiment trying to help the OP with a device that could be fabricated by fellow NON pro.

This is exactly what I'm looking for. I can use this jig to make 96" squat stands and NOT have to move it. Move the work piece. Nice small footprint. "Pull the Pin slide drop the pin and dril"

Got it. In previous post you said it lacks the precision of... I was just curious where it was missing. Perhaps no misunderstood?

Haha. I looked back at my post. I was comparing the precision of my welded clip on guide to the nicely machined one TJS shows in his video.

Reebz. Are you planning on buying a mag drill? If you are, you are welcome to this jig. I can send it out to you (on my dime of course)

You may need to change the containment platform depending on the dimensions of your drillís base.

    PM me.

Thank you for the offer. I will try and make one. I'm not sure what drill to get at this point. I do drill (95% 5/8 holes) (4% 1 3/8" holes) (1% 2 3/8")

A 2 3/8Ē hole saw may work with a drill chuck adapter on a mag drill. The other two sizes would be affordable and efficient with annular cutters.

Let me know if you change your mind, as you are more than welcome to it.

That very nice of you. I have to check on annular cutter sizes. My local wedding store sell Fein drills. I will get a price Wednesday. If its to much I talked to Hougen they recommended the HMP 917.

I just looked at the price for a 2 3/8 annular. Hole saw it is.

The 5/8 are for J hooks, The 1 3/8 is for pipe to make chin bars, the 2 3/8 is for sleds the 1.5" pipe fits perfectly into 2.38 DOM.
