How to clean a MIG nozzle?

Some time back I did some MIG welding using a typical MIG nozzle. That project is finished and I'm back to NR-211 and stick. But is there some way to clean the goo out of this MIG nozzle? It's way back in the little nooks and crannies where it can interfere with gas flow, but I can't reach with a brush or object. What could I soak it in, say for a couple of days, to clean it out? Gasoline, maybe? Mineral spirits?

Anti spatter spray is a good start too.

Clamp a 1/2" or maybe a little smaller drill bit in the vise and screw the nozzle onto it.

If you want to get fancy Walter has a ceramic nozzle coating to prevent spatter build up.

I spent half a day at the local Walter warehouse learning about their products. The E-Weld ceramic nozzle dip is the cat's meow. It's not real cheap, I think it was around $23Cad. at the time but it works fantastic. Also got to use the Surfox system for cleaning stainless welds and it's almost instant.

Whatever you do, DO NOT stick a die grinder in the cup to clean it. One of my guys did that and ended up with 8 stitches in the palm of his hand.

I need to point out more specifically, the hard part is cleaning inside the inner wall, where the gas inlets are. There's a space between the inner and outer walls of the nozzle. It's not like cleaning a piece of pipe or something.

    This may be your issue . . . ?

Liner, defuser, contact tip & nozzle are the business components
    of a MIG gun.

The defuser stays put on the gun, and the nozzle is either screwed
[new style] or slid [old style] over the defuser. Both styles have
insulators to isolate the nozzle from the 'charge'.

Evidently the defuser has unscrewed with the nozzle. Whether old
style or new - the inside of a nozzle is a thru-hole, featureless, one
    piece, and easy to swab.

Remove the defuser from the nozzle, and wrench tight to the
    gooseneck - the nozzle is a light hand snug . . .

can you not pull the nozzle off & scrape it clean?

Opus explained what has apparently happened. It's up to the OP to figure it out and correct things. When things are as they should be cleaning the inside of the nozzle is "like cleaning a piece of pipe".

    I found a roll of Quarters in the truck - so I'm back live . . .

You are - far from the first to suffer nozzle pain - here's an
associated, 'blast from the past' . . .

If it's made of copper or brass, let it soak in CLR, then use a stainless steel brush.

Re: How to clean a MIG nozzle?

Assuming that is a Velocity nozzle off your 211i, the diffuser is pressed into the nozzle with a plastic insulator between the nozzle and diffuser. It's a real PITA when you get a BB in the nozzle that shorts to the diffuser.

You can drive the diffuser out with a 3/8 rod, clean the parts then press it back together. I've done it a couple of times, not sure how many times you can press it in and out as it's not designed for that.

For flux-core, I'd recommend Tweco Velocity nozzle 608246432274
