    New king bed frame.

Wife wanted a new bed so I figured I would make one. I may have over estimated the size for the tubing. 3x3x .120 It is really heavy. The long rails bolt into the head and foot board to blind nut/plate. Maple panels in the head and foot boards.

The mattress sits pretty solid on plywood. No movement. The king mattress is pretty big.

Yes, but looking at pictures and blindly ordering material when you are new at this fabrication thing...LOL I am definitely happy with it though

Nicely done. Not sure you overdid it with the gauge of the metal, perhaps store/ bought frames would be heavier if they did not need to be shipped.

Small angle makes it flush with the top of the steel.

I bought a king size frame for our spare bedroom, it was fabricated from rectangle 1 x 2 x .062 I believe tubing, my cousin, 6'4" @ about 300 lbs & his wife slept on it together with no sags or bends.

Any welder knows, whatever you do on one side, do to the exact same thing on the other side to avoid distortion. I am sure it applies to mattress slide.

Personally, I don't think it's over built. I would have used 1/8" as well...with more bracing...

    Re: New king bed frame.

Looks nice! Gotta love a heavy-duty build, and no squeaking joints!

When I built my bed frame, the best thing I ever did was recess the outboard legs a few inches under the corner of the box springs. Sure, it's a little more work and can be aggravating to design in..... but NO MORE STUBBED TOES!!!!!

Seriously. There's a reason why we have a "toe kick" designed into the kitchen cupboards!

Nothing worse than making a late night bathroom run and stubbing the toe in the process. Better than coffee to wake you up!

I like it, nice job. I also like the 3"sq tubing. I think it looks better than smaller

Nice looking frame Bill, and there's a lot of volume inside below the mattress platform for a set of huge drawers. 3 per side; 10" or a foot deep, and 3' pull out! Could make a separate 'box' or cabinet to slide in from the sides and have a real bonus of storage volume?

I like the look of the larger dimension tubing.

    cheers,
