    Brazing metals question

I’m familiar with brazing steel, using bronze. I’ve done a lot of soldering with copper. What I want to figure out now is attaching brass. Should I do this with silver solder only? Will bronze rod work on it?

I typically use silver, brass to steel.
I have used bronze on welding my brass to bass for a tig welding lug.

I’ve brazed both copper and brass. I was originally
concerned that I might reach the melting point of
the base metals but have never had a problem.

    Attaching brass to...steel?
Either way look at this page from Harris and select the metals you want to join for the correct filler and flux

Brazing rods can be brass or bronze. Some are called bronze but are actually brass. A lot of times they are interchangeable but your question is confusing. If you're joining brass to brass, silver solder could be a good option.

    Re: Brazing metals question

Copper alloys are called bronzes, so brass is actually a specific type of bronze.

Brass and bronze can be brazed, but as the base metal can have close to the same melting point as the filler there may or may not be problems with the base metal melting - if it does you're technically welding, not brazing. Using a lower temperature filler such as silver brazing rods may be the easiest option, but I don't think there are any hard wrongs or rights. Go with what works for you.

Never heard that before. My understanding is that bronzes are copper alloys that contain tin, and brasses are copper alloys that contain zinc.
