Replacement MIG Gun for Fabricator 211i

Does anyone have any advice on a replacement gun for my Thermal Arc (Tweco) Fabricator 211i? Iíve had it with the Velocity gun and itís poorly designed contact tips. Finally gave up the ghost yesterday 5 minutes into a project; a few love taps with a sledge gave it the kiss of death.

Donít want to throw a heck of a lot of money at it, but some of the import guns with Tweco backends seem decent on eBay.

Also - anyone else with this machine - have you run into issues with feeding? Weird... the machine ran fine for years - then it developed feed issues. New liner, cleaned the rollers, etc. My suspicion is that I trimmed the new liner too short; as it relies on a ďspringĒ contact between the end of the liner and the contact tip in the gun. Others have had issues as well.

Thanks!

Would you mind sharing a little more about the issue you are having with the gun? I have a 211i (it sat unopened in the box for 2 years before getting it out last year) but just finished my first 12-pound spool of .035 wire. The only issue I've had with the gun to date is shorting the diffuser to the nozzle after doing some overhead welds. The integrated design of the diffuser and nozzle are a real pain to clean.

I'd love to know what I have to look forward to.

Thanks

Could be unique to me; but in my limited research Iíve seen other with the same issues. I installed a new liner in order to fix the issue; to no avail. Albeit, I mightíve trimmed the new liner too short.

The Fusion gun relies on a spring contact between the liner and the contact tip, for continuity. Thereís only a real light duty clamp system to retain the whip at the gun end. Thus, dependent on your gun angle and rotation of the whip, you will lose contact. I battled bird caging at the drive roles, burned contact tips, and porosity... which Iím surmising is due to fluctuations in weld wire as I was depressing the trigger.

Other than that, itís a good machine. Burns 7018 well, and I like the TIG arc. Right up there with my XMT 304.

Just to verify... this machine is a standard Tweco style back end?

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

As an aside, I did have an issue with porosity when I first set up my MIG gun. Turns out I hadn't properly seated the gun into the welder. The plastic gun retainer screw leaves much to be desired and doesn't lend itself to a positive gun to welder connection. I'm sharing this as perhaps you have an issue where the gun connects to the welder both from a connectivity and gas leaking issue.

With that said, I doubt a connection issue would have anything to do with your bird's nest issue.

Please do post what you settle on and how the new gun works. Thanks!

Won this for $71, Tweco Supra XL - light use.

Hoping it works a little better; had a tough time finding info on contact tips.

Went ahead and order some 15 series .035 contact tips - based off quick research. Hopefully Iím right.
denverguy Message me your address and Iíll send you the rest of my Velocity contact tips if you cover postage. Think I have about 10 or so, as well as a new diffuser.

Go to your LWS and have them order you a Bernard Centerfire gun that fits that welder. I did that with my Lincoln 210mp and it fixed a whole myriad of issues I was having.

What shielding gas are you using? Can't tell if you have undercut or not.

No joint prep whatsoever, also - a bit of undercut. Was just seeing if my eBay score worked.
