Sounds like fuel bowl isn’t filling fast enough for engine to run
sustained at high rpm. Maybe blow out carb passages with brake
cleaner and make sure line from tank is clear?
Looking for some advice on my Onan powered Welder/Generator.
Fires up good and idles down within 30 sec. It throttles up as soon as I strike an arc; and the first rod runs pretty good but when I start the second rod the engine starts to lose power and struggles to maintain rpms eventually stalling out.
I pulled the Marvel Schebler carb, stripped it down and soaked it in Carb cleaner overnight, cleaned and reinstalled, but it does the exact same thing as it did before...any ideas?
Onan model # is CCKA-S/2976J
Welder model # DC-225/3-AS

Have you checked the fuel filter if it has one? How about the fuel pump?

I just got one of these running that sat for 10 years with fuel in it. Same prob. I took the carb apart twice. I missed the little tiny brass jet in the carb. I also knocked off the plastic fuel mixture adjuster lever and reset the mixture with a screw driver and not the stupid lever.

This has two jet adjustments, one is a float stop which has a tee grip and the other must be mixture, which has a slot for screw driver. Thanks for the info
Welcome! Lacquer thinner is excellent for carburetors that have been sitting, also a set of torch tip cleaners and a set of number drill bits with a pin vise. I recently did the carb on a Yamaha 4 wheeler this way, I also have a set of small needle tips for a blow gun that I use.

Thanks Mike, it was the fuel pump. Can you help me with the carb settings?
It's been awhile but IIRC the only adjustment is the idle mixture and idle speed.

It is more of a graceful dance of feel and hear between the mixture and idle screws. I get them to where I adjust the mixture to get the highest idle then I adjust the idle. I keep toggling back and forth till I get to where I want to be. Also, make sure when you flip it to high run that it does not stumble getting there. If it does you need to adjust a little more enrichment into it. Then you have to go back to step one for the idle and mixture. It is more of an art.
