    Miller Dialarc250 Voltage Stabilizer

I was working on a 1981 Miller Dialarc250 for a buddy the other day that had popped CB1 on the front panel had could not adjust amperage. Found one post on SR1 that had arced for some reason. I changed the voltage stabilizer and SR1 with know good used ones in the shop and the machine operated properly. When I went to order new replacements the SR1 was no problem but I was told by Miller that the stabilizer was not available and obsolete. My question is what do the new Dialarcs use? Is the amperage control circuit totally different? I presume you could build one if you had the proper values on the capacitor and resistor. Thanks in advance.

I assume you are talking about the suppressor not the stabilizer.
Stabilizer is part of the transformer assembly.
Suppressor is a capacitor / resister assembly across the weld diodes.
I think the new design weld diodes assembly has it built in. which make it a problem for older machines, unless you can figure out a way to retro fit the new diode assemble into the older welder. Look at the parts manual for the different dial arc welders. you will see several changes to the weld diode assembly.
If you can figure out the values of the cap and resister you can build one.
Also look at some of the engine drive welders. some of them use a suppressor also.
might be able to adapt. browse the owners manuals library.

Thanks, I think the easiest option would be to build a new suppressor from new components. Miller doesn’t really have parts look up sheets available online like Lincoln. If anyone has built a suppressor, I would appreciate some guidance
