You order what you need, and keep it in stock.

Do you want your money tied up in rods, or available for other stuff. Silly....................................
    Geeeeeez Sammy,

So..... What happens when it's midnight and you need to run the tractor for an emergency but..... You just broke the pitman arm on the left!!! So you go to the container to grab some high Nickle rod because of the high stresses on the cast part in need of a weld but you don't have any because you only bought enough for the one job ...

Hardly a lot of money tied up, $100 will get you a good amount of inventory

its a adult toy hobby when a hobby person has more welding equipment and supplies like stick electrodes than most professional shops.
    .
    a professional
    1) get shop pack with drawings
    2) creates a list of supplies needed to be ordered including welding rod. welding rod is ordered in proportion to amount of steel being ordered
    3) since welding rod normally delivered is a few days there is no reason to have more than a week or 2 worth of welding rod in the shop
    .
and unless welding 1/2" or thicker usually dont need bigger than 3/32 and 1/8 welding rod.
    .
again if hobby person averages using 10lbs of welding rod per year, person doesnt need to be buying 50lb cans of rod literally 3/32 and 1/8 or 100lbs of rod at 10/year thats 10 years worth
.....if you got over a 100 years of welding rod in hobby shop thats just plain hoarding, dont complain about no room in the shop with all the stuff stored in hobby shop

a lot of "if's" you are assuming there. No one's complaining that's for sure.
