She reaches over and typed in a few things and brought the price for the bag down to $12.50.
Thats what I hate about fastenal! Same thing here, I can get half price on stuff if I talk to the manager who I know really well. One of the other higher ups gets me ok pricing as well but if neither are available and I'm stuck with the high school dropout behind the counter I pay an arm and a leg

All of the local TSCs sell fasteners by the pound (at least the normal stuff) but their website makes it really hard to find. Looks like grade 8 bolts are $4.39/lb, grade 5 are $3.39 and grade 2 are $2.19 right now.

Re: online fastener sources
We have a farm supply chain around here called GEBOS - they sell by the pound a few cents cheaper than TSC, but for common sizes up to 1", it's the best deal for a walk in place I've found.

Re: online fastener sources
On ebay, these are my two go-to sources.

I like these guys because I can get square-head and unplated fasteners. Of course, you'd better be ready to buy real bulk! I've never looked at the numbers too closely because I like the convenience of having stuff delivered right to the house and figure that's worth paying a bit for since it means I don't have to burn time and gas driving around town to pick the stuff up at a store. $32 for 275 1/4-20x1-1/2" Grade 8 Yellow Zinc-plated bolts seems pretty fair if you're going through that many in a year.

Re: online fastener sources
I use Tractor Supply for everday stuff. Fastenal is way too high, if I need special items I go to a bolt supply.

Re: online fastener sources
The one nearby in Hudson WI sold me some bolts a couple months back cash/walk-in (well call-in - they weren't letting people in at the moment due to COVID). I wonder if that has now changed???

Rather shop local than TSC if possible.

Re: online fastener sources
Two things I like about Mcmaster here in northern San Diego county CA. in spite of their higher prices:
1.They have the best parametric search to find exactly what you want, along with good dimesioned drawings for all the parts.
2. Often they deliver the same day and almost always the next day.

3. Very good selection and it's in stock. Rare if they don't have it.
Next day always for me in S. CT but can place an order as late as 6pm.

I can use the work account if I need to. For all practical purposes I pretty much boycott them. I've gotten so much better service and pricing thru Packer fasteners that I really don't need Fastenal anymore

Re: online fastener sources
You might take a look at S.W. Anderson http://www.swaco.com/. No sure of their bolt pricing but for PEM fasteners they did us right when ordering volume.

Re: online fastener sources
If you want good, genuine certified aircraft hardware at a reasonable price, consider Aircraft Spruce & Specialty (www.aircraftspruce.com).
No, you won't find 1" diameter bolts, you won't find all-thread, you won't find coarse threads. Yes, you will have to order online, pay shipping, and wait a few days. I started ordering extra hardware whenever I ordered other items and I now have a pretty decent assortment of #6, #8, #10, 1/4", 5/16", & 3/8" hardware.

Re: online fastener sources
Thanks. I only needed regular bolts, and the answer was already found through Tractor Supply.
