1-1/4" Steel Rod cut w/ Evolution Rage2 Steel Blade - use cutting fluid?

I would like to cut some tubing end caps from a 1-1/4 inch steel rod with an Evolution chop saw - this may put the machine to its limits, is this safe? Should I use cutting fluid?

    The tools and material specifically:

Evolution 15-Amp 14-in Corded Chop Saw [1,450 RPM at no load]
Evolution Power Tools 14BLADEST Steel Cutting Saw Blade, 14-Inch x 66-Tooth
Low-Carbon Steel Rod, 1-1/4" Diameter, 1 Foot Long
    TAP Magic Protap cutting fluid

The Evolution saw website specs state a Mild Steel Plate - Max. Thickness: 1/4" -- and this rod would be 1 and 1/4 inch, so much larger that the quarter inch max.

Just go slow and steady, should be OK? I wonder how long the cut will take, likely multiple pauses for the blade to cool, etc.

I would not have even read the maximum in the manual. I would have just cut... slow and steady like you wrote.

I cut several pieces of 2" solid square bar the other day using my DeWalt 14" dry cut.
I think I had a stadard DeWalt blade on it. I can't remember the number of teeth.
Slow and steady pressure and about a minute later it was done.

I have the Evo 380CPS and have cut many, many pieces of 1" solid square, 1" solid round, 1.25" solid round and 1 x 3" solid bar along with other stuff...no problem at all. The more you cut thick stuff the shorter the blade life will be, but it's not going to cause damage.

I suggest buying a used Milwaukee portaband. You could probably buy one for what that blade cost.
    I've seen many for $50 to $100
A portaband is an awesome tool to have.

I have the 7 1/4” Evolution and a Harbor Freight ($99) portaband. If that’s the choices, I would quickly go with the HF portaband.

In reality I would use my old Kalamazoo band saw as first choice.

Cutting fluid would make a mess. Stick wax lubricant will be better IMO. Less mess I guess you could say.

Wasn't too bad ... didn't get to much over 100dB.

decibel level is relative to distance. If you got 100 dB @ 6ft, you'd get about 104-106 dB @ 3ft.

Re: 1-1/4" Steel Rod cut w/ Evolution Rage2 Steel Blade - use cutting fluid?

I've attempted cutting larger diameter round stock with a cutoff saw (aka chop saw, not a tooth saw), and it was a disaster. I only cut the bigger stuff with the bandsaw nowadays.

I know this doesn't relate to a cold saw, especially a small cold saw, but it's germane I think. Circular saws build heat, and they have to fight a lot of load as they cut. A bandsaw has the same load from beginning to end on a thick cut (well, sorta). Either way, a bandsaw excels on thick stuff.

Aw Hell, I didn't read the thread good...........was only 1.25OD round stock. That's child's play with almost any kinda saw. I was talking about 2"+ round stock.
