On job site one nick cord is $2,500 fine 15 years ago.
If see this group tax collectors coming just put them in the trash.
The contractor want new drill not a fine.
Even if tape the bad spot it is fine too.

I only had very short cords on drills and other power tools the extension is cheaper to trash.

Nice. I have the B&D version of that dewalt. It will twist your arm, I can only imagine what that Milwaukee will do.

Used to have a big drill like that passed down from my father who was in construction, I think it was a "Star" brand. I'd only use it on steel on the ground, wearing my tall leather boots, and let the handle come up against my boot. Worked good then without twisting off your arms.

We had one of those monster drills at work but was in a drill press fixture. Very slow but monster torque. No way would I free hand that thing, it could hurt you bad!

The handle threads might be 1/2" pipe. Easy to make one if that.

Reminds me of a neighbor who found one of those old steel cased 3/4" drills with reduction gearbox at the dump. He replaced the cord & was on a step ladder drilling holes in c purlin on his barn. Drill grabbed & the cord locked his hand on the handle. The drill spun him around about 3 times & chunked him off the ladder. Broke his arm & bruised him up pretty bad. As soon as he got out of the hospital he took that drill right back to the dump, cut the cord off & tossed it back on the pile.

I was too close to the front rack and the drill caught, slammed my hand into the rack against the trigger.

Then, like above, I started leaning the drill handle against my boot/leg...

Last week I was drilling 5/8" and 1" holes in truck frame, only needed 4 each so I broke out the heavy 1/2" Dewalt.
5/8" went fine, first 1" hole it caught and smacked my hand....went and got the mag drill...stupid...

I had one of those 3/4 drills several years ago. I let a friend use it to drill a hole in the wall of his log cabin. He broke his nose when it hit him after the bit he was using jammed.

I have the smaller hole shooter and it will wind you up pretty tight when it hangs up.

10 years ago in a dumb a$$ move on my part I was using one of those low speed high torque monsters to ream an 1-1/4" hole. I had the piece clamped to a radial drill press table that was on a stand 'bout 6" high, the hole to be reamed was horizontal. now here's the dumb part, put my left leg up and used the left handle braced against my knee as a stop, trigger was on the right side.
Reamer caught, threw me into the wall, blew out my knee which I had to get replaced 8 or so years ago after numerous cortisone shots which did nuttin'.they are dangerous especially when used by a braindead idiot....me.........

You can buy upto 1 ¼" drill.
That one will take out two at time.
My 1¼ drill walk away one night it was NOT REPLACE.

Check into car reamers, not cheap but really shine when you need to enlarge a hole.

I agree mag drill is a lot safer.
I have drill thousands of 9/16” in steel with 1/2" hand drill Not Fun.

I Purchased a pair of Rockwell 1/2” hand drill it was a plastic body and the plastic twist around your hands.
The two drill has was donated to trash can as no one in crew wanted them.
I was lucky I crew member had the bad luck

You can sharpen a drill to high angle.
It works great for. Employer not so good for employ.
When push drill in to pilot hole it took only few seconds to drill the hole.
But everything the could do to hold the drill.
The drill bit was retired and name Temple of doom.

Check into car reamers, not cheap but really shine when you need to enlarge a hole.

I had an old 1/2" drill I inherited from my grandad, it was a monster too, I watched a helper get wrapped up the the cord once, it was heavily geared, single speed & took a while to wind down. I got it in 76, it was old then, I used until the late late 90s or early 2000's sometime, it finally shorted out & got a little dangerous as it would shock you some, even with a three wire cord. I think it's still out there in the shop somewhere.

We had a Milwaukee like in the pic to use for raising silo unloaders on the farm. Pulled the handle off the winch and ran the unloader all the way up with it. The side handle was something like 3/4" or 1" pipe thread.

I have one of the old Milwaukees. We used it on the job till one day my helper told me he got thrown off his ladder and broke a tooth using one when he was with his previous employer. That night I went to HD and bought the Dewalt with the clutch and put the Milwaukee in my garage, don't need any jobsite injuries.

i have a big drill similar but older (no plastic) w/ a 3/4 jacobs. i just dont tighten the chuck down so much if in a iffy situation, that way if it binds, it can spin on the shank. my trigger is out quite a ways from line of spindle like that one, so theres plenty of leverage , plus the pipe on the opp side

After using them, I have a huge amount of respect for those big drills. I have never been bitten but was on a turnaround job in a processing plant where the boilermakers were using one to roll tubes and one of the helpers nearly had his nose ripped off when the motor reversed and the extended pipe handle came up and hit him. That was a mess.
