End table with oak top and stainless legs

Scooped up the wood off the street last week and turned it into this. 4” thick pin oak slab

Is sliding on the aluminum track difficult, do you lube it?

I used some grease, and it was easy to slide, I’ll put some delrin or the product that’s even slicker and has less resistance then delrin

how do you plan on keeping the bark from coming off. Every time I so something with slabs, eventually the bark removes itself ?

Yes it will eventually come off by itself but this one is kinda glued on right now so it will take a while or need to be bumped off. If You wanna keep it on you need to nail it on or glue it on. I won’t mind when it comes off

It’s chamfered. Won’t matter much anyway. Not sharp enough to hurt someone if they tried

That’s a great video. Two take-always, the importance of starting with dry lumber and the slotted holes in the mounting brackets.

Moto, your green oak slab will shrink around 12% in width as it dries. That’s around 1/8” per inch of width. If you don’t slot your mounting holes in the direction of the wood shrinkage, the slab will split severely as it dries.

Or Teflon shim stock.

You can build one out low cost soft pine for hammering training.
My father did for my older bothers so per nail for me.
I learn only hit the center nail.

I’m going to slot the inside of the frame a inch on each side. 12% shrinkage would be about 2” total shrinkage.
