Gem brand buzz box welder

I have a question for everyone. Anyone ever hear of a Old Buzzbox welder Branded as GEM ELECTRONIC TR100? Who was it made by? is it 110v or 220v? AC or DC?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Can't find any info on it but if it's a 100 amp AC stick welder it might make a good door stop or boat anchor. Sounds like a glorified battery charger. Look for something better if you want to learn how to weld.

I tried a Google search as well... found one thread that seemed to indicate it might be Russian but it wasn't clear so I didn't save it...

Welcome! Do you have a picture of the welder? My dad had an old 120 volt machine that was a complete POS. It was a tapped machine and 100 amps, AC & pretty heavy, I can remember it from the very early 1960's so AT LEAST 56-62 years old or more, and it had a few years on it then. It was this machine that I first learned to stick metal together, unfortunately it was ALWAYS the welding rod to one of the 2 pieces until things warmed up a little & then still didn't weld good, sometime in the later 60's he bought a 240 vold 295 amp AC machine from sears, that one welded pretty good with the right rods.

Looks like a NEMA 6-15 or 6-30 plug (240 volt). Can't tell which, as they differ in size. Is there number on the plug?



CEM might be Cemont, which was an Italian welder company.

Run as fast as you can. It's a glorified battery charger that will do nothing except frustrate you trying to weld with it.

I've bought a lot of cheap junk at auction, but even I'd walk away from that.... doesn't look all that old, but it's not big enough to be very useful. Might be ok for sheet metal, but you'd be further ahead with MIG or TIG for that anyway. If you're in the American market you can find 200-250 amp buzz boxes cheap that will weld circles around that...
