    Not even a hobbyist

    Hello

I first did some welding 3 years ago when I needed rebar attached to the wooden posts of a fence to keep it from falling over. It's still standing, though the steel choice was poor and the skills of the welder worse

Since then I fixed a metal chair and a couple of other small things. All with electric arc AC, E6011

In other words - I'm not even an amateur or hobbyist. I have no training, no experience to speak of, and some would say should not be allowed to weld at all But hopefully you will tolerate my questions on the forum.

    Andrew

Welcome! If you feel compelled post some pictures of your welds & that way we can see what & how you're doing. Don't worry about thinking your questions are dumb or stupid, we've all been there at some point, I've seen a couple of stupid questions, BUT, the question was asking why tires/wheels are round! Welding questions are to benefit you & your skill, and sometimes may even benefit some of us. Also maybe post up your location, I've seen more than one offer to help if you're close and will travel to them. There's a LOT of varied experience here and you'll get many answers for some questions, all different and reflect different experience. It's a great bunch of guys. Try to give good explanations of your problem and accept their advice, because if you challenge them/us you get snarky answers. Enjoy!

    Welcome Andrew.

Read a lot here and practice! I don’t claim to be a welder but I have been welding over 12 years. Still a lot to learn.

It's very rewarding to be able to fix something like a $20 chair yourself, even if it costs $600 to do it!

    Welcome to the Welding Web

Sounds like most everything you have welded is holding up!!! That would make you an experienced welder in my book
