    Shop teacher in training

Hi, I am Ch4p. I am currently in school learning to be a shop teacher in my part of the world and I took it upon myself to make sure I learn how to weld so I can teach my students. The pandemic kind of shafted me and my class in that I am not allowed a whole lot of shop time to practice welding at school. So I am looking for some solutions I can practice my welds at home.

So I have come here to get some advice. Ever since I started welding at school, I couldn't stop wondering why didn't do this earlier in my life.

Thanks and I hope to see you in the section where I am gonna ask about advice on first welding machines.

Welcome! As for your home needs, you're either going to have to buy a machine, find a friend with a welder who will help you or find a shop that will let you intern to learn how to weld, hey they might like a free helper.

    what country are you in?

What process - AC DC Stick welding ?

    Wall mountain videos

get a machine, there's no substitute for that.
Get a DC adjustable Stick machine with adjustable current, not just tapped output

Get exactly the same thing they use in the school for consistency of what you learn vs what you teach.

Books, check the free downloads from Miller and Lincoln

Get the LIncoln, How to weld metals. book.

It's really cheap if you buy it direct from lincoln.
People are selling it on amazon for HUGE markup.
It's available free online if you can find the source.

I am in Canada. So not as much availability for welding machines as the states. But maybe a decent amount of industry sources.

I am kinda wanting to focus on Stick and MIG welding as those are good starter processes for high school students. Since I don't have a lot of space, a good multiprocess welder would be nice.

I posted another thread on the welding machines I am thinking about for my home use. Wouldn't mind your feedback on that.

But yea I will look into getting the lincoln book for my teaching resources.
