Drill Press Belt Pulley
I have a 1999 Big Roc Tools Drill Press Mod # DP 16F-C .....Motor shaft pulley broke on the top and now it is eating the belt.. I am looking for guidance on where to find a pulley and if they are inter changeable. Big Roc no longer sells DP's or parts.

Re: Drill Press Belt Pulley
Pics????? A few of the hardware stores around here carry generic pulleys from 1.5-10 inch or more... the shafts are usually 1/2,5/8ths,3/4s and then some with a keyway... what does your pulley measure out to???
OD,ID, belt size, shaft ID, flat or keyway or taper???
Also, if the pulley is aluminum probably cast you may be able to repair it... by welding/brazing...

Re: Drill Press Belt Pulley
It does not sound to hard but I would need to photos
Sometimes it is just making a adapter for standard pulleys.

Re: Drill Press Belt Pulley
A lot of tools like that have generic or halfway generic parts in them... so there's a good chance you can find something that will work... or be able to fix it somehow.

Re: Drill Press Belt Pulley
Up Date on the pulley, I am going to leave it as is for now. I just moved the belt down to the next grove. I will lose the slow speed ( 16 down to 15 ) At some point I will take it all apart and try to get another pulley. Thanks for all the help..

Ah ha... one of those... I'll bet it's just like most all the others out there with 4 grooves

Re: Drill Press Belt Pulley
Here's a quick look at Jet's 16 speed albeit wood drill press...
Part number 88 is the pulley... now I am NOT saying this will fit!!! you need to do some measuring and check the size of the pulley you have then research this part umber to find out... Jet is usually pretty helpful or find some other parts books for different mfgs... there really aren't that many different ones... just 100's of brands probably all made in less than 6-7 factories

Re: Drill Press Belt Pulley
Oh.... as for fixing it... I believe it's cast iron... so brazing is the answer couple different ways to do it but personally I'd make a 'mold' to retain the braze then fill it in and grind out the groove if you got a lathe easypeasy.. if not then use the motor itself as the lathe !!!be careful!!! if you haven't done this sort of thing before!!! works best if you can 'speed control' the motor.. but anywitchways you grind the bulk out first with whatever you got...dremel,die grinder, angle grinder, etc... Oh and braze a steel washer on top of the pulley to reinforce it. And make sure the cover has clearance

Re: Drill Press Belt Pulley
https://www.grizzly.com/parts/Grizzl...02-99/P7943059 This fits the Grizzly 14" benchtop drill press. It might work...........you can generally call Grizzly for tech specs such as diameter, and bore size.
Might work, might not.........most of the Chinese stuff is the same, just different paint, and badges.

Re: Drill Press Belt Pulley
I would machine off the broken small pulley. make new small pulley that has a shaft that fits the hole in of old pulley with remaining pulleys.

Re: Drill Press Belt Pulley
I leave mine on slow speed, so when I was messing around with the pulleys to slow it down, I just put the smallest single pulley I could get in conjunction with a larger than original pulley on that middle shaft, with a small pulley on the motor. Quick, cheap, easy fix in less than 75 pics. This configuration gets it down around 85 RPM.

Re: Drill Press Belt Pulley
This doesn’t help @Thats Hot but I added a jack shaft to this DP to get it down to about 70 RPM.

Re: Drill Press Belt Pulley
I had that happen. I cutoff the small damaged one and added a single small pulley.

Did the shaft protrude enough to “capture” that small pulley or did you have to weld it to the existing stepped pulleys?

Yes, the shaft was above the the existing busted pulley. So easy fix. Drop on new small pulley and tighten set screw on it.
