Seacan Metal Storage

My friend Matt just finished outfitting this seacan for metal storage. The plan is to compliment the steel storage in his main shop to accommodate retail sales for the “little guys”.

Here’s a shot of it in his parking area showing overhead bunkers to accommodate big stuff.






Crossmembers every 40” for support and lined with 20 gauge so the pieces slide easily without catching.


Expandable cart ^^^shown in above photo to allow moving up to full 24 foot lengths easily.

Matt went with a 20 foot container because he got it for a great price. He cut the front end out and added another 10 feet to accommodate the 24 foot sticks.








40 footers are always the cheapest but it would have stuck out too far into the parking lot.

He thought he would purchase and add a ten foot container until he found out how much they cost due to the popular size for homeowners.

The roof has spray foam insulation and is protected by sheet metal so that it doesn’t get “poked” when loading the top bunks with long material.

Yeh, first thing I noticed was the foam in the roof... I know exactly how these cans sweat!!!!


So I wonder why he didn't just get a 40 and cut 10 feet out of it???seems like it would have been easier than cutting a 20 ad adding to it....

That’s what I wouda done. It would have been way neater looking.

If a guy had the space a forty footer with a man door and a wall ten feet back from the nose and you’d have a nice little coffee room.

OR stick the material racks all the way to the front and leave the space near the doors for a cutoff or bandsaw.

Apparently he got the 20 footer REAL cheap.

We got a couple of 40's real cheep the other day too... but the hauling was a little costly...

If I had land I would have some of those. Speaking of retail we have a trendy little shopping center here all made with shipping containers. Went there once, when they first opened. Very trendy, too much so for an old guy like me. Need a $40 candle? They got em.

Pretty cool shopping center. You and I are NOT TOO OLD to take advantage of SELLING $40 candles to “trendy” shopppers.

Makes sense. It clearly wasn't a 40', and I've never seen a 25 or 30' can, so it wasn't computing.

I just wish I knew how to search for containers for sale by local owners. Craigslist and FB-Marketplace are saturated with national sellers posing as local, or their agents that are local. Getting too hard to try and filter those out.

Can I haul a 20' on my 24' deckover gooseneck without any special license, permits, or DOT this-that-other thingies ? It's just a farm use trailer.
