hey do you know anything about putting the miller headgear in the optrel shell or could point me in the direction to find it ? im assuming guys are using the miller gen 3.5 ? ive been using the optrel e684 at home for a couple years and love everything about it except the ****ty head gear that allows the hood to drop in my face constantly

it's Optrel headgear for Optrel hoods...

    https://www.metalfabsupplies.co.uk/p...ofit-headgear/

Says it fits any existing Optrel hood.

He's talking about a previous mod.

Cornchip, as you can see in the video ive done the Miller headgear swap on my e684 and Crystal 2.0. I'll look for the Miller part number. You do know you can tighten the headgear side knobs, right?

Going through some of the other Youtube clips on the Optrel's, there seems to be some complaints about it being too "fragile" and inconsistent in shading around the lens... any comments on that?

ya i know about the side knobs but after a while it seems they loosen from flipping it up then its dropping in my face once again. about 2yr ago i used a brand new miller digital infinity for about 6mon and consider that head gear to be the best ive ever used. i just ordered the miller gen3.5 head gear and one way or another ill make it fit in this e684

No complaints here. Are those complaints by actual users, or people commenting on the videos?

of the hemets ive used, i consider the optrel to have the best optics by a mile. but every brand has low, medium and high end models. without knowing the specific model, its hard to comment on the youtube claims. about it being fragile, i would consider it more of a indoor fab shop type of helmets. where as a speedglas is sturdier construction suited for outdoor industrial use. i use speedglas at work outdoors in rain, snow mud etc and its a solid helmet but at home ill choose the e684 every time

Indeed, I have noticed that the comments in YouTube, unfortunately, very often are not objective and do not reflect reality.

The Quattro is supposed to be rated for industrial/structural steel use. That's why I went with it instead of the CLT 2.0 model.

Wow!! Serious markup in Canada. $495 USD ($628 CAD) here. You might be better off ordering it from the US, and shipping to Canada!

Sometimes... depends on whether they will ship to Canada and what the extra fees are in shipping and duty. Usually when the spread is wide, there's a reason for it, but not always.

Not that I’m even thinking about buying but it looks like UPS shipping to my door is $50cdn Debatable whether or not taxes will be applied when it crosses the border. I find UPS usually doesn’t but USPS and FedEx always does

Shipping to my freight forwarders in Blaine Wa would be free but about $30 to get it across the border and then 12% tax from Canada Border Services when I pick it up from the airport. ( 1 hour round trip ).

Plan A would be worth it to me as I wouldn’t have to deal with ******** customs officers. (Yeah if you’re reading this you know who you are!)

They got me coming AND going.

It seems to be really arbitrary too... one package will come straight through, the next might have 50% in taxes. I try to get them to stamp farm use on the package... sometimes it helps, sometimes not.

It's better than any other hood I've used. Can't tell you about durability yet(SpeedGlas currently wins in this department).
