    Making a 22 1/2 deg elbow out of a 45.

So i am installing a heater in my garage. It is supposed to have stainless vent. I ordered a 45 elbow, but now realize that i need something closer to 22 1/2. Problem is that i can only find a 15 degree.

How bad of an idea will it be to cut out 22 degrees of the 45 and weld it back together? I dont Tig, but i can mig (if that matters)

4" single wall (not sure if that is a B type or not)

The damn thing was $50. Otherwise I would have already hacked it up.

From fabrication strand point. You will have some misalignment if angles do not match on the mating surfaces. It may not be a significant gap?

would using a backup piece work if small enough to not interfere with flow?

Alignment won't be an issue...I will have enough play to make up for some error.

My issue is more with welding the stainless. Anything I need to know? It will be inside, so it has to be pretty air tight. Not sure rust will be an issue, which I'm sure would be the case if it were out in the weather.

Can't (or not supposed to) has to be Cat III (stainless and gasketed pipe).

Well that SUCKED! I got it cut and it lined up pretty darn good. But it is much thinner than I am capable of welding and have it look good. I got it, but blew a lot of holes in the process. I probably spent more time filling the holes I made than actually welding the two pieces together. But, it's done and air tight...guess that is all that matters.

Propane. But I am venting it horizontally, so it has to be the Cat III.
