    Best multiprocess welder

I'm new to welding and really want to get a new welder. I really want great quality and willing to spend some money. It will be my first welder, what do you suggest? I do want an electric unless the engine driven is far superior. Thank in advance for your responses.

    Welcome to the WeldingWeb

What kind of welder you 'want' is kinda determined by just what you 'want' to do with it... home use.... farm use.... extra income small jobs use... tell us a more of what you have in mind when it comes to welding

What type of welding are doing.
About 90% welding today is MIG/Flux core.
Some times it maybe torch work only.

Define "some money" is the best start here. We need to have a ball park on what you can spend.

Otherwise I will post crazy stuff like this nice little welding setup,

Yeah, need some more specific details. Awhile ago someone was asking for the best engine drive welder to get. That could could easily cost you over 50K and it's just for the machine.

    Re: Best multiprocess welder

Let me add one more thing to the other question. What type of line power. single or 3 phase and what voltage is it.
There are several multiprocess welders, from light hobby to heavy industrial.
What to buy depends on what you want to do and what type of power you have.
Also what country you are in.

    Re: Best multiprocess welder

    ^^ what he said!

the best multiprocess machines are 3 phase. Lincoln V350, Miller XMT, Esab Warrior, Lorch MX350... all 3 phase, and will run MMA, TIG, and with a seperate wirefeeder, MIG/MAG.

Single phase machines tend to be compact machines with MIG feeder built in - Esab Rebel, Fronius Transsteel, Miller Multimatic, Lincoln speedtec.

They'll all run stick and MIG great, but they won't be as good as a dedicated TIG set.

All joking aside that klutch looks nice.

My preference for garage hobby welder would be a miller 215 esab 215, used 211

Something rated to weld 3/8" and has to have 240 power. Id never recommend a 120v size machine.

    Even a hobart 180 187 or ironman 240.

Go to HTP and stop the madness. Try and find a used one first. Then buy a new one. They've what you need. I beat this thing to death for a solid 8 months, right back to HTP.

Im a believer that most machines today work well.

However I did spend my money on a multimatic 235 just a week ago. Warranty and local blue support.

Do those machines have port for foot pedal and one available for it ?

    Re: Best multiprocess welder

A multiprocess machine usually does a few things ok but not great.

Just keep that in mind. You get a compromise. If that suits your needs, great.

Having said that, my advice is always the same. Buy as much machine as you can afford. That doesn’t have to be new. Used machines offer great value.

You can always turn a machine down and use less power. You can never squeeze more power out of a lesser machine.

If you get good at welding 1/8”, welding 1/2” is just more fun to be had! Lol

    Re: Best multiprocess welder

if you are open to an engine drive I take for granted that you have some coin to spend, my advice for home hobby / repair work would be a weld pro 200 mig-tig-stick. it is a slick little machine I don't own one but have a co-worker who does and I have used it and really like it. the lift start tig function works really well as does the mig function. I haven't ran it in stick mode but my co-worker say's it has a really crisp clean arc. for 140 bucks more you can get a spool gun for aluminum welding. If you want industrial quality I can't help because the only thing in that category I have used is a miller trail blazer with a high frequency box and while we love it for arc welding it is always a hassle to get the tig function to co-operate and we spend nearly as much time massaging the settings as we do welding. I favor transformer machines for longevity but the inverter machines are smooth runners in my limited experience. if money is not an issue the world is your oyster and there are a lot of welding pearls to be had.

    good luck

If you want a machine that you can really grow into and possibly never bump up against the limits with, you will love the Lincoln PowerMig 360MP. It is multi process and does both pulse mig and pulse tig, stick, double pulse, gas shielded flux core and is amazing with mig aluminum. I just got one 3 weeks ago and am amazed at it. Totally intuitive interface and tons of advanced features. Bakers Gas has a couple good videos on YouTube.

Hobart just came out with a multiprocess 200 amp welder with digital readout. I have not seen any reviews but it does fluxcore, mig, DC tig, and stick.

    Very nice red machine

But disagree to. I think a very small % of us would make that investment and actually be enough into this side of life to actually get much out of the investment. It would just be a pile of money on wheels with crap piled on top of it.

I happen to agree with you. Target your process and purchase the appropriate machine. Lincoln makes the best mig welders. Miller makes the best tig welders. Multiprocess welders tend to be jacks of all trades, masters of none.

    Re: Best multiprocess welder

I think most good multi process welders can out weld tge human behind the trigger rod or stick.

I've been running my 235multimatic alot. I've burned 7018 and lots of wire. It mostly will be used running wire. Could get randomness use running rod hard facing.

    Machine is very nice.

Im sure Lincoln is very nice too.

I am interested in the pulse machines but I don't need one at this time.
