Re: Best multiprocess welder
Although the I-mig line is dual process: MIG/stick, I think the comparison is machines that mig tig, and stick.and yes its probably possible to scratch start TIG with the I-mig just without a foot pedal
Everlast has a good comparison paper, and their "MultiPurpose" (Lightning MTS) machines seem to be a good value for the options offered at a lower price point than their competition. ( pulse duty cycle balance freq, etc.)

I don't know but maybe he is saying he clicked and they were MIG/Stick not actually what the OP is looking for. Multi process to most means it can also do tig.

That's what I thought when I looked at them... These are dual process... Not multi??? In fact I didn't know anyone had the just mig n stick ones...

Re: Best multiprocess welder
Metal inert gas (MIG) welding can be successfully used to weld aluminum. When selecting a welder, it must be decided whether spray arc welding or pulse welding methods will be used. Pulse welding requires an inverter power supply, while constant current and constant voltage machines can be used for spray arc welding.

The standard old school transformer needs all of the 300 plus amps just to wet the puddle out like a 220 amp inverter can.. Only takes over 100 amps input to match the toy. If the lower powered inverter is a toy,a Transformer ac tig is is a joke in all the rest of the areas..Problem with a good multiprocess machine is they are generally a better mig machines then a stand alone units..Unless you get into 3 phase only machines. And even then they still can't match good inverter overall.

Re: Best multiprocess welder
Airco had pulsed Mig long before inverters came along. Miller had it too. Inverters may have a lot more adjustability but pulsed Mig is not new. According to Ed now Emily Craig early pulsed Mig was caused more problems that solutions.

At first I didn't think this was a serious unit. The ironworkers are using this to weld in 5/8" & minus reinforcing steel, to box-in beams. Looking at the specs, I would personally choose something larger, like the two XMT 350's they have on site sitting on pallets. But, they are getting it done with one of these. This really is a serious, "light industrial???" unit. The more I see it in action, the more I am interested. Tonight the music was off, and the arc sounded really smooth running 1/8" lo-hy.
