Artist welder
I am an artist welder. I generally do not weld every day.
A lot of the welding that I do is TIG welding on 0.043" (1mm) (32 oz) copper. I have a Syncrowave 200 welder, and use pulse often. I often want my welds to disappear, so I do a lot of grinding, and produce more scrap than I would like.
I live in Colorado, and am a retired mechanical engineer.

Re: Artist welder
Welcome. Post up some pictures of your work and maybe add your website or Facebook to your signature.
There are a couple of other artists on here but I don't think many of us work with copper very much. I look forward to seeing some of your work.

Welcome! I used to machine a lot of anode grade copper. I was a machinist in a copper smelter & we would machine copper golf putters for retirees that were golphers, it was a TOTAL PITA when you got to the finishing/polishing stage, the anode grade copper(about 91-93% pure) it contained lots of little voids & slag spots that would show up in the process, they went to the pipe shop where the TIG artists lived, they would fill the voids I think with silbronze & back I would go to continue, the other bad part was drilling & threading the shank for the shaft to be glued in, they came out beautiful, but in our manual machine shop it would take 40-60 manhours at journeyman rate, they made for a high dollar retirement gift. Your work looks nice! What part of Co are you in, I have a daughter & family in FORT COLLINS.

Re: Artist welder
Copper is not the easiest thing to work with. I have heard that milk makes a good coolant/lubricant for machining copper, but I have never tried it. Funny story though.
I live in Fort Collins.
I use deoxidized copper filler, usually 1/16" rod, although I am trying out 0.045" (1 mm) Mig wire as a filler.
Thanks to all for the greetings.
