Table saw as a welding table

I have yet to fire up my YesWelder MIG-205DS and since I'm a total n00b and will just be practicing with fluxcore and all the sub $250 tables seem to have issues of one sort or another, was thinking about holding out for a non working steel top table saw on craigslist. Some have slots, etc. that could be used for clamps and the like.

Workable idea or should I take up knitting?

Re: Table saw as a welding table

It is a very workable idea. If you can find an old cast iron one, they are great. They are typically very flat, strong, and have slots or webs so you can insert a clamp.

    Edit:
Here are some pics of saws for sale near me. They have solid top and ones with webs. Since some are cast, you have to be careful clamping too hard or finding a spot that is flat on the underside for the clamp.

I have one of these as an extra to my regular welding table, and yes it is thin gauge, but it does quite nicely.

    beats welding on the floor.

I have that Craftsman iron saw for my table, mine's on casters. It works great in a small space and the work clamp can go anywhere on it. Just trying to figure out how to add a vise...
Do not believe everything that you think.

I think that would be totally doable, but I’d take up knitting also just to cover all bases....

Buy the 2-1/2" hitch receiver that bolts under the bumper and mount it under the table. Then buy some 2" x 3/16 sq tube to fit in it and build a vise mount to weld to it. I also made a mount for my bench grinder so it and the vise can interchange.

Re: Table saw as a welding table

How ironic. There's a guy over on the Fine Woodworking Forum looking for a cheap table saw.

Can't find one but sees a couple of welding tables on Craigslist. He's considering cutting a slot in the top and mounting a saw blade arbor and motor underneath....

Re: Table saw as a welding table

Our first "table saw" was a Black and Decker with a broken guard screwed to the underside of an old wooden dining table. Wired the switch on and used an on/off switch on the table leg. Worked alright except for the worn bearings in the hand saw.

Just what I had in mind. But in my neck of the woods they're referred to as 'vintage'. A guy want $500 for this //edit - can't seem to upload an image

True story - a few years ago I bought a decent table saw for a project I had in mind. After getting all the doodad's, one night at dinner my wife says - " Don't cut your fingers off"

I sold it on CL the next day.

    Yes, I'm superstitious.

If you are replying to a specific post, sometimes it helps to use the "reply with quote" button instead of straight reply, so people know which post you are referring to....you'll catch on.

Re: Table saw as a welding table

Before this post finds its way to the bit bucket...

Using this table purely as an example:

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QYQRZN2...v_ov_lig_dp_it

Where would one find the welding fixtures like those that come with

    //edit This site looks reasonable:

    https://fireballtool.com/search.php?...ection=product

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D3JKUQE...v_ov_lig_dp_it

Easy enough to find welding clamps at HF but nothing anywhere that's affordable for 16mm holes. I've looked at a Grizzly table that's in my budget but they want $115 for a swing clamp!

Going to give myself another week to find a used table saw but as an example, there's one on CL for a nice 15 year old Craftsman however they want $425 which as I understand it is more than they cost new back then.

In closing I really like the Strong Hands https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D3JKUQE...v_ov_lig_dp_it

and if I can ever sell an item I have on CL, I'll probably pull the trigger on that.

A quick look at the last link you provided for the strong hands table listed on amazon shows a very if not exact copy of that table made by the same manufacture in China for a Clutch table

The strong hands table is made in China check the questions customers ask.

Here is the Clutch table for half if not cheaper than the strong hands table you linked. It’s your money.
