    Fcaw

After 6 years of owning my Everlast PA300 this thing is in is final leg i think. The arc sometimes changes when welding and the display sometimes shows 001, and other times over 1000.
I want to try FCAW because i have to weld outside mostly welding 1/8 to 1/4
Figure it would be nice when i have to a bunch of square tubbing.
What size machine do i need?

A 200A class MIG is plenty suitable for ¼" steel as gasless flux core produces a very hot arc compared to MIG w/C25 for a given wire diameter/WFS/voltage.

Can a guy get away with a 200 amp machine if he wants to get into fcaw-g. If he kept the material thickness to 3/8 in or thinner.

I would consider duty cycle IF that's an issue. Running a smaller amp machine at near maximum will cut down on welding time.
If you want longer welding time go up to a higher amp machine.

I agree. Technically yes, it's possible, just not for very long.

What would be a good all around flux core wire? Like E6011 on stick.

    Thanks guys
I was going to just buy an Everlast I mig 200, but my dad thinks the life i got out of my current Everlast is pathetic considering the little i have used less than 150lb of electrodes for sure.

Bakers Gas has the Hobart Ironman 240 for $97/month through Affirm.
Thats the route I might go after i finish paying the TV i recently got.

As for Hobart welders, Farm and Fleet, Tractor Supply, Fleet Farm, and Northern Tool usually have them on sale.
I bought from Baker's Supply . After my first purchase, they send me a code for $15.00 Off next purchase.
Their prices on Miller Gloves and hats were better than my local supplier and Amazon.
Miller hats are twice the hats as the Lincoln ones I bought.

Lucky me! Haha!! I picked up a beautiful Lincoln tombstone! But the real one Idealarc 250 A/C D/C for $200 is alittle dusty and could use a new paint job around here those are not that comon. Been waiting for one 7 years or so.
