    Trailblazer Troubles

Had a long day today then it really went bad around 3 this afternoon. Went to tig some 316 pipe using tb 302 and a miller high freq box, inspector doesn't like lift arc. Got everything hooked up and went to start welding. Just couldn't run a bad no heat. Have a miller finger wheel on the torch. When I turn it on the gas valve opens, contact closes but only get 22 amps. Machine seems to work alright on lift arc but I didn't have a torch with a gas valve so kind of hard to really test. Plugged the torch control directly into the 1 pin on the welder and get the same result 22 amps. Machine serial number is LF252452. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Re: Trailblazer Troubles

Do you get more than 22 amps using the panel Voltage/Amperage control rather than remote?

If yes, check the Panel/Remote switch, terminals and wires at C,D & E in the 14-pin control cable plug on the torch and 14-pin receptacle on the TB is where I'd start.

You have full amperage control from the same torch using lift arc?

    Re: Trailblazer Troubles

    Oops. You said TB 302.

The 302 has Auto Sense for the remote that automatically switches control to any remote voltage/amperage control plugged into it. No seperate selector switch.

I have to ask - what do you have the panel control set to with the remote plugged in? Remote control is limited to the maximum setting of the panel control.

Have you checked the torch control pot readings?

    Re: Trailblazer Troubles

varied the panel control, started out at full, then tried it at different settings. That had no effect on the 22 amps. I will check the pot readings this morning. What is the pots value?

1000 Ohms between C and D and should vary between 0-1000 between E and C or E and D as the control is operated.

    Re: Trailblazer Troubles

Thats what i got when i checked it. Had to just go ahead and finish the pipe wok using the lift arc without any remote. Welds fine. I had problems a little while back with a plug on the gauge panel. As soon as I get a chance I think I will pull the covers off and check all the plug connections.
